Basic Science and Technology Teacher

Job Description

• We are looking for a competent and enthusiastic Basic Science and Technology Teacher who can make scientific and technological concepts interesting, practical, and accessible to students.
• The successful candidate will deliver lessons in accordance with the approved curriculum, organise practical activities, assess students' progress, and encourage curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, and scientific inquiry.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging Basic Science and Technology lessons in line with the approved curriculum.
• Teach scientific and technological concepts using age-appropriate and learner-centred methods.
• Conduct practical lessons, demonstrations, experiments, and project-based activities where appropriate.
• Encourage students to observe, investigate, ask questions, analyse information, and draw scientific conclusions.
• Connect scientific and technological concepts to everyday life and real-world applications.
• Develop students' understanding of science, technology, health, safety, environment, and basic technological processes.
• Prepare lesson plans, instructional materials, classwork, assignments, tests, and examinations.
• Assess students' learning and maintain accurate records of academic progress.
• Provide additional support to students who require assistance.
• Prepare students effectively for internal and external examinations.
• Encourage critical thinking, creativity, innovation, and problem-solving.
• Integrate appropriate ICT and digital resources into teaching and learning.
• Ensure that practical activities are conducted safely and responsibly.
• Maintain effective classroom management and a positive learning environment.
• Participate actively in departmental meetings, school activities, science-related projects, exhibitions, and co-curricular programmes.
• Collaborate with other teachers to support students' academic and personal development.
• Communicate professionally with parents, colleagues, and school management.
• Support the school's commitment to academic excellence, discipline, character formation, and service.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification in Science Education, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Integrated Science, Technology Education, or a related field.
• A recognised teaching qualification is an advantage.
• TRCN certification or eligibility for registration is an advantage.
• Previous teaching experience, preferably in a secondary school.
• Good knowledge of the Nigerian Basic Science and Technology curriculum.
• Ability to conduct and supervise practical activities effectively and safely.
• Strong classroom management and communication skills.
• Good ICT skills and willingness to incorporate technology into teaching.
• Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
• A passion for science, technology, innovation, and student development.
