Job title : Social and Citizenship Studies Teacher

• We are looking for an enthusiastic and competent Social and Citizenship Studies Teacher who can make lessons relevant, engaging, and connected to students' everyday lives.
• The successful candidate will teach students about  citizenship, rights and responsibilities, national values, social relationships, governance, leadership, culture, security, and community development , while encouraging critical thinking and responsible participation in society.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging Social and Citizenship Studies lessons in line with the approved curriculum.
• Teach students about  citizenship, civic responsibilities, rights and duties, national values, leadership, governance, and social responsibility .
• Help students understand their roles and responsibilities as members of their school, community, and nation.
• Promote values such as  respect, honesty, integrity, discipline, tolerance, fairness, responsibility, and service .
• Encourage students to appreciate Nigeria's cultural diversity and promote national unity.
• Develop students' understanding of social issues and their impact on individuals, families, communities, and society.
• Encourage critical thinking, discussion, debate, research, and informed decision-making.
• Relate classroom lessons to current and real-life social situations where appropriate.
• Prepare lesson plans, instructional materials, classwork, assignments, tests, and examinations.
• Assess students' understanding and maintain accurate records of their academic progress.
• Prepare students effectively for internal and external examinations.
• Encourage leadership skills, teamwork, community participation, and responsible behaviour.
• Use appropriate teaching resources and digital tools to enhance learning.
• Maintain effective classroom management and create a respectful and inclusive learning environment.
• Provide additional support to students who require assistance.
• Participate actively in school programmes, assemblies, debates, civic activities, cultural events, and co-curricular programmes.
• Collaborate with colleagues and communicate professionally with parents and school management.
• Support the school's commitment to  academic excellence, discipline, character formation, faith, and service .

Requirements

• A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification in  Social Studies, Political Science, Sociology, Education, History, or a related field .
• A recognised teaching qualification is an advantage.
• TRCN certification or eligibility for registration is an advantage.
• Previous teaching experience, preferably in a secondary school.
• Good knowledge of the Nigerian Social Studies and Civic Education curriculum.
• Strong understanding of Nigerian society, citizenship, governance, national values, and social issues.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong classroom management skills.
• Ability to facilitate meaningful classroom discussions and debates.
• Good ICT skills and willingness to integrate technology into teaching.
• A passion for developing responsible, informed, and socially conscious young people.
