Business Studies Teacher

Job Description

• We are looking for a competent and passionate Business Studies Teacher who can deliver engaging lessons and help students develop practical business knowledge, entrepreneurial thinking, financial awareness, and problem-solving skills.
• The successful candidate will teach the approved Business Studies curriculum, assess students' progress, prepare them for examinations, and connect classroom learning to real-life business situations.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging Business Studies lessons in line with the approved curriculum.
• Teach key areas including Commerce, Office Practice, Bookkeeping, Business Concepts, Entrepreneurship, and Financial Literacy, as applicable to the curriculum.
• Make lessons practical by relating business concepts to real-life situations.
• Develop students' understanding of entrepreneurship and encourage an entrepreneurial mindset.
• Teach students basic principles of buying, selling, trade, banking, savings, budgeting, and responsible financial management.
• Prepare lesson plans, instructional materials, classwork, assignments, tests, and examinations.
• Assess students' knowledge and monitor their academic progress.
• Identify students who require additional support and provide appropriate intervention.
• Prepare students effectively for internal and external examinations.
• Encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, and decision-making.
• Use appropriate technology and digital resources to enhance teaching and learning.
• Maintain effective classroom management and create a positive learning environment.
• Maintain accurate records of students' assessments, grades, and academic progress.
• Participate actively in departmental meetings, school activities, and co-curricular programmes.
• Encourage students to develop skills relevant to further education, entrepreneurship, and the world of work.
• Communicate professionally with parents, colleagues, and school management.
• Support the school's commitment to academic excellence, discipline, character formation, and service.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification in Business Education, Business Administration, Accounting, Economics, Commerce, or a related field.
• A recognised teaching qualification is an advantage.
• TRCN certification or eligibility for registration is an advantage.
• Previous teaching experience, preferably at the secondary school level.
• Good knowledge of the Nigerian secondary school Business Studies curriculum.
• Strong communication and classroom management skills.
• Ability to explain business concepts clearly and practically.
• Good ICT skills and willingness to integrate technology into teaching.
• Strong organisational and interpersonal skills.
• A genuine passion for teaching and developing students' entrepreneurial and practical skills.
