Mechanical Lead - Rotating Machines Workshop

Position Overview

• The Mechanical Lead will provide senior mechanical engineering leadership across workshop operations and major rotating-machine projects.

Position Purpose

• The Mechanical Lead will be responsible for the mechanical integrity, technical execution and quality of rotating-machine overhaul and repair activities. The position requires a senior,
• hands-on engineer capable of leading complex workshop projects from initial inspection and dismantling through repair, machining, balancing. reassembly, testing and return to service.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide senior mechanical leadership for all rotating-machine workshop activities involving motors, generators, alternators, pumps and associated rotating equipment
• Lead inspection, dismantling, dimensional assessment, repair, refurbishment, modification and reassembly of major rotating machines.
• Assess rotor, stator and mechanical components and establish repair requirements based on inspection findings, drawings, OEM information and accepted engineering practice.
• Take responsibility for mechanical aspects of generator and motor rewind projects, including rotor condition, shaft condition, bearings, fits, clearances, alignment, balancing and final reassembly.
• Work closely with the Electrical Lead and Winding Supervisor throughout complete rewind projects to ensure mechanical and electrical activities are fully integrated
• Supervise shaft, journal, bearing, coupling, casing, fan, seal and other mechanical repair activities
• Oversee mechanical machining and workshop processes, including turning boring, milling and specialist shaft/journal repair where required.
• Coordinate rotor balancing activities and review balancing results against
• Establish and verify critical dimensions, tolerances, fits, clearances, run-out and alignment requirements
• Inspect completed mechanical work and ensure workmanship meets approved engineering and quality standards
• Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with HSE requirements, client procedures and Felton quality systems.
• Provide technical input to estimating scope development, work planning and client discussions for rotating machine projects

Rewind Responsibilities:

• Rewind involvement The Mechanical Lead is not the primary winding specialist. However, the role has significant responsibility for the mechanical elements of rewind projects, particularly tr inspection, shaft and journal condition, bearings, mechanical clearances, balancing, alignment, rotor/stator fit-up and final
• The Mechanical Lead must understand the complet rewind process sufficiently to coordinate effectively with the Electrical Lead and Winding Supervisor

Requirements

• Degree, HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 10 years' experience in a similar senior
• Extensive hands-on experience with large industrial rotating equipment.
• Proven experience with generators, motors, alternators and/or large pumps
• Strong experience in major overhaul, refurbishment, repair and failure investigation
• Demonstrable experience with rotors, shafts, bearings. couplings, alignment and balancing
• Experience supporting major motor/generator rewind projects is strongly preferred
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, OEM documentation
• Experience leading workshop teams and supervising technicians and subcontractors
• Africa or Middle East experience is an advantage but is not essential

Reporting & working relationships:

• Reports to the Workshop Manager and works as part of the senior technical workshop team.
• The role will work closely with the Mechanical
• Lead, Electrical Lead, Winding Supervisor and Nigerian technical workforce, with responsibility for knowledge transfer and development of local capability.

Working environment:

• The role will be based at Felton Energy Services Ltd's rotating machines workshop in Nigeria and will support major repair, refurbishment, maintenance, rewind, testing and commissioning projects for industrial clients.
• The successful candidate must be comfortable working in a procedures, systems and technical capability.
