Training Manager

Role Overview

• Our client is seeking an experienced Training Lead to drive learning and capability development across its retail and corporate operations.
• The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and implementing training strategies that strengthen product knowledge, leadership capability, customer service excellence, operational standards, and employee engagement.
• This role will also oversee the development of innovative learning programs while ensuring alignment with global retail best practices.

Key Responsibilities
Learning & Development Strategy:

• Develop and implement a comprehensive learning and development strategy aligned with business objectives.
• Establish competency frameworks and structured learning pathways for employees across different functions.
• Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development throughout the organization.
• Partner with business leaders to identify capability gaps and implement targeted development initiatives.

Training Design & Delivery:

• Design and facilitate onboarding, technical, leadership, sales, and behavioural training programs.
• Develop certification programs that enhance employee competence and career progression.
• Ensure training content reflects business priorities, operational standards, and customer expectations.
• Deliver engaging learning experiences through classroom, virtual, and blended learning methods.

Product Knowledge & Brand Excellence:

• Lead product education initiatives to improve employee knowledge and confidence.
• Equip teams with the skills to communicate product features, benefits, and brand value effectively.
• Promote brand culture and ensure employees consistently represent the organization's values.
• Support initiatives that strengthen customer engagement through product expertise.

Customer Experience & Retail Excellence:

• Develop customer service training programs that enhance the overall shopping experience.
• Train teams on effective selling techniques, customer engagement, and service excellence.
• Support initiatives aimed at improving sales performance, customer satisfaction, and operational standards.
• Drive consistency in customer experience across all retail locations.

Leadership & Talent Development:

• Design leadership development programs for supervisors, store managers, and business leaders.
• Support succession planning and talent development initiatives.
• Coach managers on performance management, employee engagement, and leadership effectiveness.
• Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Learning Content & Innovation:

• Lead the development of training manuals, digital learning materials, facilitator guides, videos, and e-learning content.
• Introduce innovative learning methodologies, including micro-learning, blended learning, and interactive learning solutions.
• Continuously review and improve learning materials to ensure relevance and effectiveness.

Team Leadership & Stakeholder Management:

• Lead, mentor, and develop the training team to deliver high-quality learning experiences.
• Collaborate with HR, Retail Operations, Merchandising, Marketing, Supply Chain, and other business units to support organizational capability development.
• Partner with regional and global learning teams to localize and implement international training initiatives.
• Manage training schedules, budgets, certifications, and learning records.

Performance Measurement & Reporting:

• Measure the effectiveness of training programs using assessments, operational KPIs, customer feedback, and sales performance.
• Prepare regular reports highlighting learning outcomes, capability gaps, and recommendations for continuous improvement.
• Monitor training return on investment (ROI) and recommend strategies to improve business impact.=

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Education, Psychology, or a related discipline.
• MBA, PGDM, or a relevant postgraduate qualification is an added advantage.
• Minimum of 8 years' experience in Learning & Development, Retail Training, or Organizational Development.
• At least 3 years' experience leading a training or learning function.
• Experience within retail, lifestyle, sportswear, FMCG, or consumer goods industries is highly preferred.
• Experience collaborating with regional or global learning teams is an added advantage.

Salary
N15,000,000 annually (gross).
