General Manager

Job Summary

• The Hotel General Manager is responsible for the overall management, operation, profitability, and performance of the hotel. The GM provides strategic leadership across all departments, ensures excellent guest experiences, maintains high operational standards, and drives revenue and business growth.

Key Roles and Responsibilities
Overall Hotel Management:

• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the entire hotel.
• Ensure all departments operate efficiently and according to established standards.
• Develop and implement policies, procedures, and operational strategies.

Financial Management:

• Prepare and manage the hotel's annual budgets and financial targets.
• Monitor revenue, expenses, cash flow, and profitability.
• Control operational costs while maintaining quality service.
• Review financial and management reports and take corrective action where necessary.

Revenue & Business Development:

• Develop strategies to increase room occupancy, revenue, and profitability.
• Monitor room rates, market trends, competitors, and customer demand.
• Develop corporate, group, and strategic business relationships.
• Work closely with Sales and Marketing to achieve revenue targets.

Staff Management & Leadership:

• Lead, supervise, and motivate all hotel employees.
• Set performance standards and conduct regular staff evaluations.
• Ensure effective recruitment, training, discipline, and staff development.
• Promote teamwork, professionalism, and accountability.

Guest Experience:

• Ensure exceptional customer service and guest satisfaction.
• Handle serious guest complaints and resolve operational issues promptly.
• Maintain high standards of hospitality, cleanliness, safety, and service delivery.

Quality Control & Compliance:

• Ensure compliance with hotel policies, government regulations, health and safety requirements.
• Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms, public areas, restaurants, kitchens, and other facilities.
• Ensure proper implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Sales & Marketing:

• Develop and implement effective hotel sales and marketing strategies.
• Build relationships with corporate clients, travel agencies, event planners, and other business partners.
• Promote the hotel's rooms, restaurant, conference, event, and other services.

Operations & Maintenance:

• Ensure hotel facilities, equipment, and infrastructure are properly maintained.
• Coordinate with the Maintenance and Engineering teams to address faults promptly.
• Monitor inventory, procurement, stores, security, housekeeping, food and beverage, and front-office operations.

Reporting & Accountability:

• Prepare regular operational and financial reports for the owners/board.
• Provide management with recommendations for improving hotel performance.
• Monitor departmental KPIs and ensure targets are achieved.

Strategic Leadership:

• Develop short- and long-term strategies for the growth of the hotel.
• Identify new business opportunities and areas for improvement.
• Represent the hotel professionally before clients, partners, regulators, and other stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree or HND in Hotel Management, Hospitality Management, Business Administration, Tourism Management, or a related field.
• Minimum of 10 years' proven experience in hotel/hospitality management, with substantial experience in a senior management position.
• Previous experience as a Hotel General Manager, Deputy General Manager, Operations Manager, or equivalent senior role is highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of hotel operations, including Front Office, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, Sales & Marketing, Finance, Security, and Maintenance.
• Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, control costs, increase revenue, and improve profitability.
• Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent knowledge of hospitality standards and customer service.
• Ability to lead and manage a diverse workforce.
• Strong computer skills and familiarity with hotel management/PMS and accounting systems.
• Ability to work under pressure and make sound management decisions.
• Professional hospitality certification or membership of a recognized hospitality body is an added advantage.
