Senior Principal Structural Engineer

Job Summary

• We are seeking a visionary Senior Principal Structural Engineer with over 15 years of expert experience specializing in high-rise and complex mixed-use developments.
• In this role, you will serve as the ultimate technical authority for landmark vertical structures that integrate residential, commercial, retail, and parking spaces.
• You will lead the structural design from initial architectural massing through deep foundation design, wind/ seismic engineering, and complex load-transfer transitions.
• Additionally, you will provide critical construction-stage oversight to ensure these high-stakes projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in strict compliance with global high-rise standards.

Key Responsibilities
High-Rise & Mixed-Use Structural Design:

• Design high-rise lateral systems including concrete core walls, outriggers, belt trusses, and space frames to efficiently resist extreme wind and seismic forces.
• Engineers complex structural transitions (e.g., transfer slabs, transfer girders, or podium interfaces) necessary to accommodate changing column grids between retail, office, and residential floors.
• Perform advanced non-linear structural analysis and time-history evaluations using finite element modeling (FEM) software.
• Manage building motion and serviceability, collaborating with wind tunnel specialists to evaluate and mitigate structural acceleration, drift, and vortex shedding.
• Serve as the Engineer of Record (EoR), stamping and signing off on all structural construction documents, calculations, and building permit submittals.

Deep Foundations & Substructure Engineering:

• Oversee deep foundation design including mat/raft foundations, bored piles, and diaphragm walls tailored for heavy high-rise loads and multi-level basement parking.
• Evaluate soil-structure interaction (SSI) in coordination with geotechnical consultants to predict and manage long-term differential settlement. Site Support & Construction Administration
• Provide expert construction-phase backstopping, resolving complex site issues, checking structural tolerances, and approving critical field design modifications.
• Review specialized contractor submittals, including post-tensioning (PT) shop drawings, concrete mix designs for high-strength concrete, and heavy steel connection details
• Conduct milestone site inspections during critical phases such as core wall jumps, transfer girder casting, and foundation pours. Multidisciplinary Coordination & Leadership
• Partner with design architects to balance striking architectural features (e.g., cantilevers, setbacks, or column-free spans) with structural safety and constructability.
• Coordinate closely with MEP and facade engineers to seamlessly integrate heavy vertical MEP risers, major plant rooms, and complex curtain wall anchoring systems.
• Mentor, train, and upscale an internal team of senior and mid-level structural engineers in high-rise design methodologies.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering. A Master’s degree or Ph.D. with a focus on Tall Buildings/Dynamics is highly preferred.
• Licensure: Active Structural Engineer (SE) or Professional Engineer (PE) license (or regional equivalent like COREN) with full legal authority to sign off on high-rise structures.
• Software Proficiency: Advanced mastery of high-rise analysis software including ETABS, PERFORM-3D, SAFE, SAP2000, and deep coordination workflows within Autodesk Revit (BIM).
• Codes & Standards: Comprehensive expertise in tall building codes and design guides (e.g., ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC, IBC, CTBUH Guidelines, or relevant regional seismic/wind regulations).
• Project Portfolio: A proven track record as a lead engineer on multiple successfully completed mixed-use developments and high-rise towers (typically 30+ stories).

Preferred Behavioral Competencies:

• Deep technical intuition regarding structural load paths, mass optimization, and material efficiency in tall buildings.
• Exceptional communication skills to clearly articulate engineering risks, drift limits, and value-engineering opportunities to developers and non-technical stakeholders.

Salary
N700,000 monthly.
