Auto Electrician & Mechanic

Job Summary

  • We are seeking an experienced and dependable Auto Electrician & Mechanic to join our maintenance team in Apapa, Lagos.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, servicing, and maintaining the mechanical and electrical systems of trucks, trailers, fleet vehicles, and other heavy-duty equipment to ensure maximum uptime, reliability, and safe operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults in trucks, trailers, cars, and other fleet vehicles.
  • Carry out routine servicing, preventive maintenance, and corrective repairs.
  • Inspect engines, transmissions, braking systems, suspension, steering, cooling, and fuel systems.
  • Diagnose and repair vehicle electrical and electronic systems.
  • Troubleshoot faults in starting, charging, lighting, ignition, wiring, sensors, and control systems.
  • Use diagnostic tools and equipment to identify electrical and mechanical problems.
  • Repair, replace, and test alternators, starters, batteries, wiring, fuses, relays, switches, and other electrical components.
  • Perform engine tune-ups and general mechanical repairs.
  • Inspect and maintain vehicle air-conditioning systems where required.
  • Conduct regular vehicle inspections and identify potential faults before breakdowns occur.
  • Respond to vehicle breakdowns and carry out roadside or on-site repairs when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, servicing, parts used, and vehicle maintenance history.
  • Ensure all tools, workshop equipment, and diagnostic equipment are properly maintained.
  • Work closely with drivers and fleet supervisors to identify and resolve recurring vehicle issues.
  • Ensure all repairs are completed in accordance with manufacturer specifications and company procedures.
  • Comply strictly with company HSE policies and workshop safety procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment.
  • Perform other maintenance-related duties assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.

  • Reduction in vehicle breakdowns and downtime
  • Timely completion of preventive maintenance
  • Quality and accuracy of repairs
  • Compliance with maintenance schedules
  • Proper use and control of spare parts
  • Compliance with HSE and workshop procedures
  • Fleet availability and reliability.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3–5 years’ proven experience as an Auto Electrician, Mechanic, or Auto Electrician/Mechanic.
  • Relevant technical qualification, such as OND, Trade Test, City & Guilds, NABTEB, or equivalent, is an advantage.
  • Strong experience working on heavy-duty trucks, trailers, buses, or commercial vehicles.
  • Good knowledge of both vehicle mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Ability to use automotive diagnostic tools and electrical testing equipment.
  • Experience troubleshooting 12V/24V vehicle electrical systems.
  • Good understanding of diesel engines and heavy-duty vehicle maintenance.
  • Ability to read basic wiring diagrams and technical manuals.
  • Experience working in a fleet, logistics, transport, construction, or industrial environment is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and respond effectively to vehicle breakdowns.
  • Must demonstrate strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
