Job Summary

  • The Head of Commercial, Ghana is responsible for leading all commercial activities of Sunbeth Global Concepts' Licensed Buying Company (LBC) operations in Ghana, covering cocoa procurement, aggregation, sales, and cross-border trading.
  • The role ensures that Sunbeth's Ghana buying operations are profitable, compliant with COCOBOD and Ghana Cocoa Marketing Company (CMC) regulations, and fully aligned with the broader Sunbeth group strategy in West Africa.

Core Responsibilities and Key Result Areas
LBC Operations Leadership:

  • Own end-to-end leadership of Sunbeth's Licensed Buying Company (LBC) operations in Ghana, accountable for purchase volumes, market share and financial results against budget, and leading the LBC team on the ground.

Regulatory & Franchise Relationship Management:

  • Serve as Sunbeth's primary point of engagement with COCOBOD, managing licensing compliance and relationship matters on behalf of the business.
  • Monitor global cocoa market trends, Ghana producer price announcements, and competitor activities, and provide regular market intelligence and pricing recommendations.
  • Manage relationships with franchise/partner LBCs purchasing on Sunbeth's behalf, ensuring their purchasing performance, compliance and commercial terms meet agreed standards.

Commercial Strategy & Growth:

  • •Drive market expansion initiatives, including identification of new sourcing districts, franchise development opportunities, and growth of Sunbeth's share of Ghana's internal cocoa market.

Financial & Risk Management:

  • Define and manage budgets for both Sunbeth-owned and franchise LBC operations, driving cost efficiency given COCOBOD-regulated producer pricing and buying margins.
  • Lead strategic engagement with financial institutions and trade finance partners to support procurement and commercial activities.
  • Monitor and manage commercial risks, including competitor activities, market dynamics and crop intelligence to support decision-making.

Data & Intelligence:

  • Prepare and present commercial performance reports for Ghana — volumes, margins, market share, risk exposures — with clear action plans.

Customer & Partner Relationships:

  • Lead relationship management and business development with key local and international cocoa buyers/offtakers.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Purchase Volume & Market Share — Total cocoa tonnage procured (own + franchise LBCs) against annual budget/target, and % share of Ghana's internal cocoa purchasing market achieved.
  • Profitability & Cost Efficiency — LBC operating margin/profit per tonne against budget, reflecting cost efficiency within COCOBOD-regulated producer pricing and buying allowances.
  • Regulatory Compliance Standing — Zero material COCOBOD/CMC licensing or compliance breaches, with all licence renewals and regulatory filings completed on time.
  • Franchise LBC Performance — % of franchise/partner LBCs meeting agreed purchasing volume, compliance and commercial terms, plus number of new franchise partnerships developed in-year.
  • Financing & Working Capital Delivery — Forward-contract/pre-financing deposits and seasonal working capital secured on time and within targeted cost of funds, ahead of each purchasing season.

Requirements
Educational Requirements:

  • Master's Degree or equivalent in Business Administration, Agribusiness, Economics, Finance, Marketing, or a related field.

Professional Requirements:

  • Professional certification in marketing, finance, supply chain, or agribusiness (e.g., CIM, CIMA, ACCA) is an advantage.

Experience Requirements:

  • 10–12 years' progressive experience in commercial, sales, trading, or procurement roles, with at least 5 years at senior management level in agribusiness or commodities.
  • Proven experience in cocoa or agricultural commodity buying/trading, preferably in Ghana or West Africa, and familiarity with cross-border trade between Ghana, Nigeria, and other markets.

Knowledge Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of COCOBOD/CMC regulations, Ghana's cocoa marketing structure, and global cocoa market dynamics.

Skill Requirement:

  • Demonstrated ability to manage large field networks (farmers, agents, depots, district offices) and track performance in dispersed rural operations.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in English and at least one widely spoken Ghanaian language in cocoa regions, with the ability to interact effectively at both village and boardroom levels.
