Job Summary
- Our client is seeking a hardworking, reliable, and energetic Kitchen Assistant to support the kitchen team in the preparation and service of food.
- The successful candidate will assist chefs with food preparation, maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen, handle kitchen equipment and supplies appropriately, and ensure the kitchen remains organised and ready for service.
Responsibilities
- Assist chefs and other kitchen staff with daily food preparation.
- Wash, peel, cut, chop, and prepare vegetables, fruits, meat, fish, and other ingredients as instructed.
- Measure and organise ingredients required for food production.
- Assist with basic cooking and food preparation under the direction of the Chef.
- Ensure ingredients and prepared food are properly stored and labelled.
- Assist in receiving and arranging food supplies and kitchen materials.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of work surfaces, preparation areas, and kitchen equipment.
- Wash and sanitise kitchen utensils, pots, pans, and other equipment as required.
- Assist with setting up workstations before food production and cleaning them after service.
- Dispose of kitchen waste properly and maintain appropriate waste-separation practices.
- Support chefs during busy service periods to ensure timely food preparation.
- Assist with portioning and plating food when required.
- Monitor basic stock levels and report shortages of ingredients or kitchen supplies to the appropriate supervisor.
- Handle food and kitchen equipment safely and hygienically.
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
- Ensure personal hygiene and proper protective clothing are maintained while working.
- Assist with receiving, storing, and rotating food items according to established procedures.
- Report damaged equipment, spoiled ingredients, or other kitchen issues to the supervisor.
- Assist with deep cleaning of the kitchen and food preparation areas.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Chef or Kitchen Supervisor.

Requirements
- Minimum of SSCE / WAEC / NECO.
- Previous experience in a hotel, restaurant, catering business, or commercial kitchen is an advantage.
- Basic knowledge of food preparation and kitchen hygiene.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately.
- Good understanding of food safety and sanitation practices.
- Hardworking, reliable, punctual, and willing to learn.
- Good teamwork and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Physically fit and able to stand for extended periods.
- Good personal hygiene and professional appearance.
- Ability to work shifts, weekends, public holidays, and during busy periods.
- Culinary or catering training will be an added advantage.
