Pharmaceutical Supply Chain & Operations Subject Matter Expert (SME)

Summary

• As a Pharmaceutical Supply Chain & Operations SME, you will assess existing processes, identify operational gaps, recommend practical improvements and train teams to strengthen capability and performance.
• Working with management, technical specialists and frontline teams, you will turn deep industry knowledge into measurable business results.

Key responsibilities include

• Advise on pharmaceutical supply chain processes across procurement, inventory management, warehousing, distribution and logistics.
• Assess current processes and workflows, identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies, and recommend practical improvements to reliability, productivity and cost.
• Advise on demand forecasting and inventory optimisation to prevent stock-outs and wastage.
• Develop and implement policies, SOPs and performance standards, and establish KPIs and monitoring mechanisms.
• Promote compliance with pharmaceutical storage, handling, distribution, quality and regulatory requirements, and support the implementation of quality management practices.
• Identify risks to product quality, storage, distribution, inventory and business continuity, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
• Design and deliver training, workshops and hands-on coaching to close capability gaps, and evaluate their effectiveness.
• Develop training materials, process guides and SOPs that enable teams to sustain improved standards independently.
• Work with stakeholders to embed change and translate recommendations into implementation plans and measurable results.
• Advise management on industry developments and emerging best practices, and prepare assessment reports and periodic progress updates.

Your Profile

• We are looking for a seasoned pharmaceutical professional who combines technical depth with practical leadership, problem-solving and facilitation skills.

You will ideally bring

• Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management or a related discipline.
• 15 - 20 years of relevant pharmaceutical industry experience, with demonstrated expertise in supply chain management and operations.
• Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical procurement, inventory management, warehousing, distribution and logistics.
• Sound understanding of pharmaceutical quality standards and regulatory requirements.
• Proven experience conducting operational assessments, improving processes and implementing practical solutions.
• Proven experience training, coaching or mentoring teams, with the ability to simplify complex concepts.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify root causes and develop practical recommendations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and presenting recommendations.
• Strong stakeholder and change management skills, with experience engaging cross-functional teams at all organisational levels.
• A clear execution focus, translating recommendations into implementable actions and measurable results.

Preferred:

• Professional registration, relevant certifications or a postgraduate qualification.
