Clearing Specialist

Job Objectives

• To provide specialist technical expertise in the design, implementation, optimization, and support of clearing and settlement platforms.
• The role leads complex technical initiatives, develops solution designs, drives system enhancements, performs advanced troubleshooting, and provides technical guidance to team members to ensure the stability, availability, security, and performance of all supported payment platforms.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Lead complex incident resolution and mentor junior analysts.
• Support daily operation of clearing and settlement applications.
• Monitor processing, investigate incidents and restore service within SLA.
• Perform approved system configuration and deployment activities.
• Support Mastercard, Visa, AMEX, UnionPay and domestic payment processing.
• Maintain technical documentation and operational procedures.
• Support application testing and change management.
• Generate operational and management reports.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, database and application teams.
• Ensure compliance with payment scheme rules and internal controls.
• Participate in disaster recovery and business continuity testing.

Job Requirements
Education:

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent (BSc. /B.Eng /HND.) in any of the following:
  • Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Network Engineering, Software Engineering, Data Science, Cyber security, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Systems, Information Technology or a related discipline.

Experience:

• 7–10 years of relevant experience in clearing and settlement, payment operations, transaction processing, technical support, banking, fintech, or a related environment.
• Experience supporting payment switching, clearing, settlement, reconciliation, or transaction processing platforms.

Skill / Competencies:

• Clearing, Settlement & Payment Processing – Strong understanding of payment transaction flows, clearing processes, settlement cycles, reconciliation, and exception management.
• Technical Troubleshooting & Analytical Skills – Ability to investigate transaction failures, system issues, discrepancies, and processing exceptions and determine appropriate solutions.
• Systems & Platform Support – Good knowledge of payment platforms, system interfaces, databases, transaction monitoring, and technical support processes.
• Risk, Compliance & Attention to Detail – Strong understanding of operational controls, regulatory requirements, data integrity, security, and accuracy in transaction processing.
• Communication, Collaboration & Accountability – Strong stakeholder management, teamwork, problem-solving, ownership, and ability to work effectively in a time-sensitive, high-volume environment.
• Certifications- The following certifications are an added advantage-:ITIL Foundation, Oracle/PostgreSQL CCNA, AWS/Azure Fundamentals, Mastercard/Visa certifications.

Reporting Relationships:

• Functionally reports to: Head, Clearing & Settlement Technical Support.
