Legal Officer

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Legal Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will support the Head of Legal in ensuring the company's legal and regulatory compliance across its business operations while managing day-to-day legal activities, contract administration, insurance claims, and corporate governance. This role is ideal for a legal professional who thrives in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment and enjoys balancing compliance, risk management, and business support.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Head of Legal in drafting, reviewing, negotiating and processing contracts to ensure legal accuracy and alignment with business objectives.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including property, tenancy, e-commerce, employment, and corporate regulations.
- Manage and process insurance claims, ensuring claims are legitimate, properly documented, and handled in accordance with legal requirements.
- Support the implementation and monitoring of data privacy and data protection compliance initiatives.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date legal records, contracts, statutory documents, and regulatory filings.
- Conduct legal research on emerging laws, regulations, and industry developments to support business decisions.
- Liaise with clients, vendors, regulators, and external partners on contractual and legal matters.
- Respond to regulatory inquiries and assist in investigations while protecting the company's legal interests.
- Assist with employment law matters, including reviewing employee contracts and advising on HR-related legal issues.
- Prepare legal reports, compliance updates, and risk assessments for management.
- Track legal and compliance KPIs, including contract turnaround time, compliance audit outcomes, and insurance claim resolution metrics.
- Support legal compliance awareness and training initiatives across the organization.
- Identify legal risks and recommend practical mitigation strategies.
- Coordinate with external legal counsel on specialized legal matters when required.
- Support the enforcement of company-wide policies and governance standards.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned in line with evolving business needs.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree (LL.B.) in Law.
- Minimum of 4 years' post-call experience in corporate, commercial, compliance or in-house legal practice.
- Strong understanding of Nigerian corporate, employment, commercial, data protection, property, and contract laws.
- Experience in contract drafting, legal research, and regulatory compliance.
- Knowledge of insurance claims management is an added advantage.
- Excellent analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
