Bookstore Assistant

Job Description

• We are seeking a friendly, organised, and customer-focused Bookstore Assistant to join our Kano store.
• The successful candidate will support daily bookstore operations, assist customers with book selections, maintain accurate sales and inventory records, and contribute towards achieving the store’s sales targets.

Key Responsibilities

• Welcome customers and provide helpful book recommendations.
• Respond professionally to customer enquiries.
• Process sales accurately using the available payment and POS systems.
• Arrange books and maintain attractive, organised displays.
• Receive, label, shelve, and monitor stock.
• Support periodic stock counts and inventory reconciliation.
• Maintain a clean and welcoming store environment.
• Promote available books, offers, and store activities.
• Work with the team to achieve monthly sales targets.
• Prepare and submit assigned sales and operational reports.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• HND or bachelor’s degree from a recognised institution.
• Completion of the NYSC programme.
• Previous experience in retail, sales, customer service, or a bookstore is an advantage.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Basic computer literacy and attention to detail.
• Good numerical and record-keeping skills.
• An interest in books and reading is desirable.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Willingness to work weekends and public holidays according to the approved schedule.
• Applicants should reside in Kano or be able to commute reliably.
