Design and Commercial Engineer (Civil)

Responsibilities
Technical Design and Engineering:

• Develop detailed civil and structural engineering designs, drawings, and layouts for EPC and construction projects.
• Prepare and review structural calculations, material specifications, and engineering documentation.
• Utilize civil engineering and design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, STAAD Pro, Tekla Structures, ProtaStructure, and other relevant applications for design development and analysis.
• Perform structural analysis, load calculations, and design optimization to ensure safety, stability, and cost efficiency of structures.
• Support value engineering initiatives to improve constructability, project efficiency, and cost effectiveness.

Commercial and Cost Management:

• Prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQs), material take-offs, cost estimates, and project budgets for civil and structural works.
• Participate in tender preparation, technical/commercial proposals, and project pricing activities.
• Conduct cost analysis and support commercial evaluations for project execution and procurement activities.
• Assist in variation management, project costing, and commercial documentation.

Procurement Support:

• Collaborate with procurement and project teams in preparing technical specifications for materials and subcontract packages.
• Review vendor and subcontractor quotations for technical compliance and commercial suitability.
• Support material selection and supplier evaluation for civil and structural components.

Project Execution Support:

• Provide technical support and clarification to site teams during project execution.
• Coordinate with construction teams to ensure proper implementation of approved designs and specifications.
• Monitor and manage design revisions, site changes, and as-built documentation.
• Support site inspections, technical reviews, and project progress reporting activities.

Risk Management:

• Identify potential design, construction, and commercial risks associated with projects.
• Develop mitigation measures and support implementation of corrective actions where necessary.
• Ensure compliance with engineering standards, safety requirements, and project specifications.

Interdisciplinary Coordination:

• Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, process, and project teams to ensure proper integration of civil and structural designs.
• Work closely with project managers, estimators, planners, and commercial teams throughout project lifecycle.
• Participate in technical meetings, design reviews, and client coordination sessions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree / HND in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum of 2 – 4 years’ experience in civil/structural engineering design and commercial support within an EPC or construction environment.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical reasoning skills.
• Proficiency in civil and structural engineering software including:
  • AutoCAD
  • Civil 3D
  • STAAD Pro
  • Tekla Structures
  • ProtaStructure
  • Revit (added advantage)
• Good understanding of structural analysis, steel structures, reinforced concrete design, and construction methodologies.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Project.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and construction standards.
• Good communication, coordination, and reporting skills.
• Knowledge of Nigerian engineering standards, building codes, and HSE requirements is an added advantage.

Salary
N200,000 - N250,000 / Month.
