Odoo Techno-Functional Consultant

Job Summary

• We are seeking an experienced Odoo Techno-Functional Consultant to support the end-to-end delivery of Odoo ERP implementations by combining strong business and functional consulting capability with hands-on technical knowledge of the Odoo platform.
• The successful candidate will work directly with clients to understand business processes, gather and analyse requirements, configure Odoo, conduct fit-gap analysis and translate approved requirements into effective Odoo solutions.
• Unlike a purely Functional Consultant, the Techno-Functional Consultant should also be capable of handling controlled technical activities and minor customisations, troubleshooting technical issues, understanding integrations and working effectively with Odoo Developers on requirements that require more substantial development.
• The role requires a strong standard-first approach: business requirements should first be assessed against Odoo's standard functionality and configuration capabilities before custom development is recommended.

Key Responsibilities
Business Analysis & Requirements Gathering:

• Lead and participate in client discovery and requirements workshops.
• Understand the client's existing business processes, challenges and objectives.
• Gather, analyse and document functional and business requirements.
• Map client processes against Odoo capabilities.
• Develop process flows, user stories, functional specifications and acceptance criteria.
• Challenge unclear or unnecessary requirements and help clients simplify processes where appropriate.
• Ensure requirements are validated and approved before configuration or development begins.
• Maintain traceability between business requirements, solution design and delivered functionality.

Fit-Gap Analysis & Solution Design:

• Assess each requirement to determine whether it can be delivered through:
  • Standard Odoo functionality
  • Odoo configuration
  • A controlled business-process change or workaround
  • Minor technical extension
  • Custom development
  • The Techno-Functional Consultant should recommend customisation only where the approved requirement cannot reasonably be achieved using standard Odoo functionality.
• Where significant development is required, produce a clear functional and technical handover for the Odoo Developer.

Odoo Functional Configuration:

• Configure Odoo applications based on approved requirements.
• Configure workflows, application settings, user roles and access rights.
• Configure master data structures and relevant business rules.
• Configure standard reports, document templates and automated activities where appropriate.
• Set up multi-company and intercompany processes where required.
• Ensure configuration follows agreed Odoo implementation standards.
• Maintain appropriate configuration documentation.

Odoo Technical Activities:

• The Techno-Functional Consultant should be capable of undertaking controlled technical activities including:
  • Understanding and working with Odoo models, fields, views and relationships.
  • Creating or modifying views where appropriate.
  • Working with XML and QWeb templates.
  • Understanding Odoo ORM and Python-based business logic.
  • Creating or supporting automated and scheduled actions.
  • Troubleshooting functional and technical issues.
  • Analysing Odoo logs and errors.
  • Understanding PostgreSQL sufficiently to support investigation and data analysis.
  • Supporting API and integration troubleshooting.
  • Reviewing existing custom modules to understand their purpose and impact.
  • Implementing minor technical changes where these fall within the agreed responsibilities of the role.
• Complex module development, major integrations, significant architectural changes and substantial customisation should be assigned to an Odoo Developer.

Integration Support:

• Gather and document functional integration requirements.
• Define required data flows between Odoo and third-party systems.
• Support field mapping and interface specifications.
• Understand REST APIs, webhooks and authentication concepts.
• Test integrations from a functional and business perspective.
• Troubleshoot integration issues and determine whether problems originate from configuration, data, Odoo customisation or the external system.
• Work with Odoo Developers and third-party technical teams on complex integrations.
• Validate that completed integrations meet the approved business requirements.
• Data Migration & Data Readiness:
  • Provide appropriate Odoo data templates to clients.
  • Define data requirements and required formats.
  • Review client data for completeness, quality and suitability.
  • Map legacy data structures to Odoo.
  • Perform or support standard Odoo data imports.
  • Support data transformation and migration activities.
  • Work with Developers where migration scripts are required.
  • Validate migrated data within Odoo.
  • Support reconciliation of migrated records.
  • Identify and escalate data-quality issues.
• The client remains responsible for the accuracy, completeness and business validation of its source data.

Testing & Quality Assurance:

• Develop functional test scenarios and acceptance criteria.
• Perform end-to-end functional testing.
• Test configuration and minor technical changes before client UAT.
• Validate developer-delivered customisations against approved requirements.
• Conduct regression testing where appropriate.
• Support integration testing.
• Investigate reported issues and determine whether they are:
• Defects
• Configuration issues
• Data issues
• Training/user issues
• New requirements or change requests
• Coordinate technical defect resolution with Odoo Developers.
• Ensure solutions are sufficiently tested before release to UAT or production.

User Acceptance Testing:

• Support the Project Manager in preparing the UAT plan.
• Prepare UAT scenarios and supporting documentation.
• Guide client users through the UAT process.
• Investigate and classify UAT findings.
• Coordinate resolution and retesting.
• Maintain traceability between UAT findings and approved requirements.
• Support formal UAT sign-off before production deployment.

Training & Documentation:

• Develop user guides, process documentation and training materials.
• Deliver Odoo training to end users and administrators.
• Explain both system functionality and the associated business process.
• Provide demonstrations of configured Odoo processes.
• Produce functional and appropriate technical documentation.
• Support knowledge transfer to client administrators and internal support teams.

Deployment, Go-Live & Support:

• Support go-live readiness assessments.
• Validate configuration and data before production deployment.
• Work with the Project Manager and Developer on deployment planning.
• Perform appropriate functional validation following deployment.
• Support client users during go-live and hypercare.
• Investigate post-production issues.
• Perform functional and initial technical troubleshooting.
• Escalate complex development issues to the Odoo Developer.
• Support transition from implementation into ongoing support.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience:

• Odoo certification or formal Odoo training.
• Experience working for an Odoo implementation partner.
• Experience with recent Odoo versions, including Odoo 18/19.
• Experience with both Odoo Enterprise and Community.
• Experience with Odoo.sh, Odoo Online and/or on-premise deployments.
• Linux knowledge.
• CI/CD knowledge.
• Experience with third-party integrations.
• Knowledge of accounting, sales, procurement, inventory or manufacturing processes.
