Job Summary
- We are seeking a skilled and experienced Crane Mechanic Specialist to inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair cranes and associated heavy lifting equipment.
- This role is ideal for a technically competent and safety-conscious Crane Mechanic Specialist who can maintain and repair crane systems to a high standard, minimize equipment downtime, and ensure lifting equipment remains safe, reliable, and operational.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect, service, maintain, and repair cranes and heavy lifting equipment.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and control-system faults.
- Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance on mobile, crawler, rough-terrain, truck-mounted, and other types of cranes.
- Inspect and maintain engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, braking systems, winches, hoists, and lifting mechanisms.
- Examine crane components for wear, damage, leaks, and other potential defects.
- Repair or replace faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical components.
- Carry out routine servicing, lubrication, oil changes, filter replacement, and fluid checks.
- Inspect hydraulic cylinders, pumps, motors, hoses, valves, and other hydraulic components.
- Conduct functional checks and performance tests following maintenance or repairs.
- Use appropriate diagnostic tools and equipment to identify crane faults.
- Read and interpret crane manuals, technical drawings, hydraulic schematics, and maintenance instructions.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, servicing, and maintenance activities.
- Respond to crane breakdowns and carry out repairs at project or field locations when required.
- Ensure cranes are maintained in accordance with manufacturer specifications and company procedures.
- Report major defects, safety concerns, and maintenance requirements to supervisors or management.
- Maintain proper care and accountability of workshop tools, lifting equipment, and spare parts.
- Ensure compliance with company HSE policies, lifting regulations, and safe maintenance practices.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
- Perform other duties assigned by management.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Certificate, Trade Test, OND, HND, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Heavy Equipment Maintenance, or a related field.
- Must have 3–5 years' experience working as a Crane Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Mechanic, or similar technical role.
- Proven experience maintaining and repairing cranes and heavy lifting equipment.
- Strong knowledge of crane mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and control systems.
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex equipment faults.
- Knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, braking systems, and lifting mechanisms.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, mechanical drawings, and hydraulic schematics.
- Proficiency in the use of workshop tools and diagnostic equipment.
- Good knowledge of crane safety requirements and maintenance procedures.
- Strong technical problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to work under pressure and respond to equipment breakdowns promptly.
- Willingness to work at project sites, workshops, and remote locations when required.
- The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge of crane mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and control systems, with the ability to ensure cranes operate safely, efficiently, and in accordance with manufacturer specifications and applicable safety standards.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working with major crane manufacturers and heavy lifting equipment.
- Experience in oil & gas, construction, marine, offshore, or heavy engineering environments.
- Knowledge of mobile, crawler, tower, rough-terrain, and truck-mounted cranes.
- Familiarity with modern electronic crane monitoring and diagnostic systems.
- Knowledge of load moment indicators (LMI) and crane safety systems is an advantage.
- Good communication, reporting, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and multidisciplinary team.
- Willingness to work flexible hours and respond to emergency breakdowns when required.
