Credit Underwriter Executive - Hybrid

Job Purpose

• The Underwriting Executive is responsible for underwriting the creditworthiness of customers in order to mitigate the overall credit risk of the company.

Scope & Impact

• The Underwriting Executive operates within the Credit Risk function, working closely with the Credit & Risk Management Team, Sales Teams, Legal Team, and Audit Team to assess and approve credit applications across the company's locations. The role sits at the core of the credit decisioning process, directly shaping which applications proceed to disbursement.
• By rigorously reviewing applications against the company's credit policy, evaluating quantitative and financial information, and flagging deviations or quality assurance issues, the role helps protect the organization from avoidable credit losses while ensuring proposals from business areas meet required standards.
• The Underwriting Executive also safeguards the company's interests by ensuring KYC and documentation requirements are fully met before approval, conducting credit bureau searches and verifications, and maintaining accurate, timely reporting to the Head of Department to support broader credit risk oversight.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Credit Assessment & Analysis:

• Review and analyze the creditworthiness of all potential customers based on risk criteria.
• Evaluate all quantitative details in applications with a view to making objective decisions based on empirical facts from financial information evaluated.
• Review applications for credit facilities to point out deviations from the company's credit policy and highlight quality assurance issues in credit proposals received from business areas.

Credit Policy & Quality Assurance:

• Ensure credits requiring amendments are communicated to the business areas to amend as appropriate.
• Communicate credit concerns and quality assurance issues to business areas for responses and resolutions.

Documentation & Compliance:

• Ensure that all credit approvals and KYC requirements are in place, documentation is duly executed, and the company's interest is well protected.
• Conduct credit search (CRS & CRC Report) on the credit bureau database.
• Conduct email verification and prepare Transaction Consummation Reports.
• Review transactions for final checklist and approval.

Departmental Support:

• Perform various departmental functions including loan covenant monitoring, risk rating, audit preparation, and recovery as assigned by the HOD.

Qualification & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
• 2 - 4years' experience in Credit underwriting
• Strong analytical, investigative, and negotiation skills.
• Banking, fintech, or financial services experience is preferred.

Salary
N300,000 - 400,000 Gross Monthly.
