Job Description
- An opportunity is available for a Bank and Non-Bank Financial Institutions (NBFI) Credit Analyst at RMB Nigeria Limited, reporting to the Head of Financial Institutions (FI) Credit.
- The Credit Analyst is responsible for supporting the independent credit assessment, monitoring, and risk management of sovereign, bank, non-bank financial institution, insurance company, development finance institution and other financial sector exposures within RMB Nigeria.
- The successful candidate will conduct detailed financial and credit analysis, prepare credit applications and annual reviews, support portfolio monitoring activities, and contribute to informed credit decision-making through the timely identification and escalation of emerging risks.
- The role requires close collaboration with key stakeholders and governance standards and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Conduct credit analysis on assigned banks, sovereigns, non-bank financial institutions, insurance companies, development finance institutions and other financial sector counterparties.
- Review and assess annual reports, audited financial statements, management accounts, regulatory filings and other financial information.
- Analyze key financial metrics including capital adequacy, asset quality, earnings, liquidity, funding profile and profitability.
- Prepare detailed credit applications, annual reviews and credit memoranda, as well as presenting same to internal approval committees where required.
- Assist in determining internal credit ratings and risk grades in accordance with the bank's credit policies and rating methodologies.
- Monitor approved counterparties and identify emerging credit risks, adverse trends and potential rating migrations.
- Monitor compliance with approved credit limits, covenants and other risk conditions.
- Support the review and recommendation of interbank, trade finance, treasury and other financial institutions exposure limits.
- Keep abreast of industry, country and sovereign risk analysis to understand external factors affecting counterparties.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of banking and other financial institutions’ regulations, prudential guidelines and developments within the financial services sector.
- Monitor news, market developments and rating agency publications to identify material events impacting counterparties.
- Liaise with relationship managers, treasury teams, risk management teams and external stakeholders to obtain information and clarify credit issues.
- Participating in client meetings, management discussions and due diligence visits where required.
- Ensure all credit assessments comply with internal credit policies, regulatory requirements and risk governance standards.
- Maintain accurate counterparty credit records, financial spreading databases and internal risk systems.
- Escalate significant credit concerns, deteriorating trends or limit breaches to senior analysts and management in line with established escalation protocols.
- Collaborate with senior credit analysts in the structuring, assessment and ongoing monitoring of financial institutions exposures, as well as in executing portfolio reviews, sector studies and special risk assessment projects.
Key Deliverables
- High-quality credit applications, annual reviews, rating reviews and credit memoranda completed within prescribed timelines and in accordance with approved credit standards.
- Credit analysis, risk assessments and internal rating recommendations supported by sound understanding of institutions’ counterparties, industries and key risk drivers
- Ongoing monitoring as well as timely identification, and escalation of emerging risks, adverse developments, rating migration concerns, limit breaches and other material credit events across assigned counterparties and portfolio exposures.
- Effective portfolio monitoring, surveillance activities and maintenance of credit records and systems to support informed risk oversight, governance and decision -making.
- Consistent adherence to credit policies, rating methodologies, governance standards and regulatory requirements while contributing to portfolio reviews, sector studies and broader Credit team objectives.

Experience & Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s Degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, Banking or other business-related field (preferred), with a minimum qualification of Second-Class Upper division or equivalent.
- Progress towards or interest in relevant professional qualifications within the accounting, finance or risk management fields is desirable, but not mandatory.
- At least 3 years’ experience in credit analysis, banking, audit, risk management, financial analysis, or other related fields, preferably within a large financial institution or consulting firm.
Skills Requirement & Personal Attributes:
- Strong numerical and analytical skills, with ability to extract, manipulate and analyze large datasets.
- Good understanding of financial statement analysis within the context of financial institutions, including balance sheets, income statements and cash flow statements.
- Ability to analyze key banking and financial institution credit metrics
- Understanding of credit risk assessment principles and methodologies.
- Ability to identify key strengths, weaknesses and emerging risks from financial and qualitative information.
- Basic understanding of the banking business model, funding structures and risk drivers.
- Basic understanding of Treasury and financial products, and markets.
- Basic awareness of regulatory frameworks and prudential requirements applicable to major types of financial institutions.
- Strong report-writing skills, with ability to prepare clear and concise credit memoranda.
- Ability to assess risks (including credit, legal, taxation and exchange control), while articulating credit recommendations and risk concerns effectively.
- Good verbal communication and presentation skills
- Strong character & integrity are paramount.
- High degree of self-confidence; pleasant personality; well presented.
- Well organized / good time management skills / disciplined / detail orientated.
- Self-starter, able to work with minimal supervision.
- Flexible, when necessary, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
