As a Senior DevOps Engineer at Paystack, you will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and maintaining our cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and automation frameworks. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to optimise our development and deployment processes, improve system reliability, and drive continuous improvement initiatives, tackling ambiguous and high-risk problems proactively within an intertwined distributed system environment.

You'll be at the forefront of powering African ambition by designing, implementing, and maintaining the cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and automation frameworks that underpin Paystack's modern payments gateway. You'll partner with cross-functional teams to optimize development and deployment, enhance system reliability, and champion continuous improvement within an intertwined distributed system environment. This role is not just about executing tasks; it’s about proactively tackling ambiguous, high-risk problems, introducing new ideas, and simplifying complex systems to ensure Paystack's infrastructure remains highly available, fault-tolerant, and secure for hundreds of thousands of merchants across Africa.

What you'll do

Own end-to-end projects, often spanning multiple teams, from design to implementation.
Design and architect scalable, maintainable technical solutions for the cloud infrastructure.
Engineer systems for maximum availability and fault tolerance to ensure continuous service.
Construct and refine end-to-end automation pipelines for continuous integration and delivery.
Proactively address ambiguous and high-risk technical challenges within the infrastructure.
Introduce innovative ideas and simplify complex distributed systems to improve efficiency and reliability.
Design and implement secure systems, manage secrets, and enforce zero-trust security models.
Contribute to architectural evolution and participate in software development activities related to infrastructure.
Debug and diagnose complex issues within an intertwined distributed system environment.
Take ownership of CI/CD architecture, focusing on minimizing downtime and fortifying security.
Lead major incident response efforts and conduct thorough postmortems to prevent recurrence.

Requirements

You have 5+ years of experience in a DevOps or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) role.
You possess deep expertise with a variety of AWS services.
You have real-world experience with Kubernetes at scale.
You are proficient in Infrastructure as Code (IAC) using tools like Terraform, including designing reusable modules and enforcing standards.
You can write scripts and automation using Python, Node.js, Bash, or Golang.
You have a strong understanding of networking concepts and protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, and VPNs.
You've built tooling to reduce errors and improve engineering productivity.
You are experienced with CI/CD tooling like ArgoCD and Github Actions.
You are adept with monitoring and alerting tools such as Prometheus and Grafana.
You can clearly articulate, implement, and document design decisions.
You have impeccable problem-solving and analytical abilities.
You possess effective communication and collaboration skills.
You demonstrate high agency and the ability to work independently.
You are adaptable and willing to learn new technologies and tools.

Nice to have

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Experience in the fintech industry or with payment processing systems.
