Project Description:

Northeast Nigeria is currently facing a growing humanitarian crisis with a vast number of Internally Displaced Persons in need of emergency assistance. These IDPs are living among host communities, lacking access to livelihoods and resources, ultimately leading to unprecedented levels of malnutrition and food insecurity. FHI 360 has been working in Nigeria for over 30 years and is now expanding activities in Borno state to respond to the IDP crisis.

FHI 360 is expanding its expertise by responding to this humanitarian crisis through integrated WASH, Health/Nutrition and Protection interventions.

Basic Function:

The facility assistant will assist the logistics team in ensuring efficient and effective management of FHI 360's facilities maintenance and assets including generators, water systems, electrical furniture, and plumbing system.

Duties and responsibilities:

Receive and monitor fueling of generators at all FHI 360 facilities in Maiduguri and ensure records of fuel consumptions are documented accurately on generators log sheets and bin cards.
Track generator routine maintenance in FHI 360 facilities in Borno state office and guest house
Carry out proactive maintenance of FHI 360 assets and facilities. This may include air conditioners, water dispensers, working rooms/spaces, doors, windows, hand washing facilities, latrines, electrical and plumbing etc.
Submit accurate records for maintenance expenses monthly.
Maintain and update assets registers for FHI 360 state office and field offices
Maintain all necessary documentations on generator maintenance and file them accordingly to FHI 360 guidelines.
Facilitate the collection and dispatch of diesel to FHI 360 facilities.
Respond to maintenance requests shared by staff across FHI 360 facilities promptly ensuring full resolution of problems within the agreed stipulated time.
Prepare weekly and monthly report on generator fuel consumption and allocation across FHI 360 facilities and share with maintenance officer.
Prepare proactive maintenance plan for FHI 360 assets/properties and facilities and submits to the maintenance officer for approval monthly.
Tag newly supplied equipment and keep track record.
Facilitate the trashing of garbage in the office, guest house and warehouse
Supervise and monitor maintenance works contracted to third parties.
Be familiar with local regulations / laws.
Any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
• Ability to response to emergency callout always when required.
• Ability to ensure visibility protocols are always adhered to.
• Ability to ensure all facility premises are kept clean and tidy always.
• Able to diagnose or dictate minor fault in generator.
• Ability to segregate duties and micromanage third party staff.
Qualifications and requirements:
- Higher National Diploma / B.Sc in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering, Building Science or Facility and/or Project Management or related field with at least 1 -3 years’ work experience
- Previous experience in an NGO setting is an added advantage.
- Ability to speak English, /Hausa and other local languages is highly desired.
- Computer literate (MS Office, word excel PowerPoint etc.)
