Job Description

The Logistics Manager is a critical role within Olam’s supply chain operations, responsible for overseeing and optimizing the end-to-end movement of goods, from sourcing to delivery.
This role requires a strategic thinker with strong execution skills, capable of managing complex logistics networks, ensuring cost-effectiveness, efficiency, and compliance.
The Logistics Manager will collaborate closely with various internal departments (sourcing, production, sales, finance) and external stakeholders (suppliers, transporters, freight forwarders, customs brokers) to ensure seamless and timely flow of materials and finished products.
The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of logistics principles, strong negotiation abilities, excellent problem-solving skills, and a commitment to Olam’s core values of being Collaborative, Agile, Resourceful, Entrepreneurial, and Sustainable.

Key Deliverables

Strategic Planning & Optimization: Develop and implement logistics strategies, policies, and procedures aligned with Olam’s overall business objectives. Continuously identify opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, and enhanced efficiency across the logistics network.
Transportation Management: Oversee all transportation activities, including carrier selection, negotiation of rates and contracts, route optimization, shipment tracking, and performance monitoring. Ensure timely and cost-effective movement of goods via road, rail, sea, and air as required.
Warehouse & Inventory Management: Manage warehouse operations, including storage, handling, and inventory control. Implement best practices for warehouse layout, space utilization, and inventory accuracy. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and quality standards.
Customs & Compliance: Ensure adherence to all relevant customs regulations, import/export laws, and trade compliance requirements. Manage relationships with customs brokers and ensure timely and accurate documentation.
Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including suppliers, carriers, freight forwarders, warehouse providers, and regulatory authorities. Effectively communicate and collaborate to resolve issues and ensure smooth operations.

Strategic Effectiveness:

Performance Monitoring & Reporting: Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to logistics operations (e.g., on-time delivery, transportation costs, warehouse efficiency, inventory accuracy). Prepare regular reports for management, highlighting performance and identifying areas for improvement.
Budget Management: Develop and manage the logistics budget, ensuring cost control and adherence to financial targets. Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives.
Risk Management: Identify potential risks within the logistics operations and develop mitigation strategies. Ensure business continuity plans are in place.
Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor, and develop the logistics team (if applicable), fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
Technology Adoption: Evaluate and implement relevant logistics technologies and systems to improve efficiency, visibility, and decision-making.
Sustainability in Logistics: Identify and implement sustainable logistics practices, considering environmental impact, ethical sourcing, and long-term viability.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree or relevant professional certifications (e.g., CSCP, CLTD) would be an advantage.
Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in logistics and supply chain management, preferably within a multinational organization or logistics company.
Proven experience in managing complex logistics operations, including transportation, warehousing, and customs.
Strong understanding of logistics principles, practices, and regulations.
Proficiency in using logistics software and systems (e.g., TMS, WMS, ERP modules).
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
Knowledge of international trade and customs procedures.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.

2). Area Sales Manager

Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers

Job Description

Olam’s division is looking for a dynamic go-getter to lead the sales efforts in the region.
You must have an eye for detail, the ability to set and drive aggressive sales targets and a strong ability to build performance cultures within your team.
The profile involves setting objectives to achieve the top and bottom-line results of the region as per the business plan within the defined budget.
You will plan and drive the distribution and coverage objectives set for the year and develop and retain a high-performance oriented team.
The incumbent would also be called to plan and execute sales promotional & market development activities and ensure that any new product launches and sales distribution objectives are met.

Key Deliverables
Strategic Effectiveness:

Strong planning skills, building the regional sales plan as per the organizational distribution segment strategy.
Building and driving the quarterly sales and revenue targets, ensuring regional sales objectives are achieved.
A keen eye on performance, managing ground activities as per plans and objectives and taking remedial action in cases of deviations.

Operational Effectiveness:

Be the centre of the action, control and guide sales and distribution activities within the region.
You would have strong market connects, identify and report competitor activities within the region. Plan the necessary actions to counter them and to protect your market share.
Build strong relationships with the distribution channel, co-ordinate for field requirements and support distributors.

Organizational Effectiveness:

Be the people person, the one-point source of motivation and guidance for the diverse and often large local teams across country/region.
Plan and execute product training, team development activities and build a robust performance culture within the team.

Requirements

MBA with 3 – 5 years of post-qualification industry experience.
A flair for sales, numbers should be like second nature to you.
Good knowledge of the region and its geography and demographics.
Prior experience in sales and distribution is required.
