- This is a full-time, on-site Counselor role located on Lagos Island.
- The Counselor will provide individual and group counseling services, using person-centered and other appropriate therapeutic approaches to support clients’ emotional, psychological, and social well-being.
- Daily responsibilities include conducting intake assessments, developing and implementing counseling plans, maintaining accurate and confidential case records, and evaluating client progress.
- The role involves collaborating with colleagues, NGOs, and other referral sources, as well as participating in case reviews and professional development activities.
- The Counselor will also contribute to the Institute’s mission by supporting training initiatives, upholding ethical standards, and promoting non-discriminatory and culturally sensitive practice.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated counseling skills, including active listening, empathy, and the ability to build therapeutic rapport with diverse clients.
- Knowledge of Clinical and Pastoral Counseling approaches, including person-centered therapy and other evidence-based modalities.
- Strong assessment, case formulation, and treatment planning abilities, with careful documentation and record-keeping practices.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries, adhere to ethical guidelines, and ensure confidentiality in all client interactions.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working with individuals, families, teams, and community partners.
- Comfort working on-site in Lagos Island and collaborating with local NGOs and community organizations.
- Relevant academic background in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field; professional certification or eligibility for certification with CICN is an added advantage.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development, openness to supervision, and willingness to engage in training offered by the Institute.
- Cultural sensitivity and a non-discriminatory attitude toward people of different backgrounds, religions, tribes, and nationalities.
- Previous counseling or psychotherapy experience in clinical, educational, pastoral, or community settings is highly beneficial.
