Senior Creative Designer

We need a creative designer who can both express and direct the expression of the Shuttlers brand across 10,000 pieces of creative. As Shuttlers evolves into a mobility operating system—the infrastructure powering commute across Africa—we increasingly want our visual brand to make considered thinking and craft immediately apparent in every pixel, consistently establishing trust as we embed our offerings more deeply in people’s daily routines.

Scope

You own the execution of, and are accountable for, the following under the direction of the Head of Product & Design:

Creative direction & craft

Set and uphold the visual standard across brand work; originate and/or coordinate and own strong ideas, direct their expression, critique work rigorously, and remain accountable for the quality of work produced by you and designers under your direction.

Lead designers through briefs, reviews, and execution; coach developing talent, improve how the team thinks and works, and step directly into the most important or difficult design problems when needed.

Spot recurring visual patterns and turn them into reusable rules, grids, components, templates, scales, and documented guidance. Build on what already exists so each new piece improves the system rather than restarting from zero.

Own and evolve reusable brand artifacts across typography, color, composition, imagery, illustration, iconography, motifs, geometry, and other visual devices; direct their consistent use across the team.

Lead the concept, art direction, and execution of key visuals, campaigns, digital advertising, promotional creative, and other major brand expressions.

Direct signage, print collateral, branded materials, environmental applications, and event creative, ensuring physical expression remains consistent with the wider brand system.

Own the quality and direction of illustrations, icons, visual assets, and supporting graphics that extend the brand into product experiences while remaining coherent with our Design System.

Commitments

You commit to the following outcomes:

1. Personally own and deliver consequential creative work , from concept and art direction through production-ready execution, while maintaining the highest craft bar on the team.
   

2. Set the standard through the work itself. Demonstrate exceptional command of composition, typography, color, imagery, illustration, iconography, layout, and art direction not only through critique, but through what you make.
   

3. Direct and develop Associate and Analyst designers through the work, giving clear briefs, useful critique, practical guidance, and hands-on support; creating room for them to think, create, receive critique, and grow while raising the quality of work produced.
   

4. Evolve and drive adoption of Shuttlers Visual System. Spot recurring patterns, abstract the underlying logic, and codify reusable grids, scales, components, templates, rules, and artifacts; guide their consistent use so each new piece builds on and improves the system rather than starting over.
   

5. Maintain exemplary design hygiene, including organized source files, clear naming, reusable components, documented decisions, and work that another designer can understand, extend, and improve.
   

6. Exercise ownership and judgment, proactively identifying weak thinking, inconsistency, drift, or opportunities to improve the system and acting on them under the direction of the Head of Product & Design.
   

Requirements

• Senior-level visual craft and judgment, demonstrated through a portfolio spanning brand, campaign, editorial, digital, and other creative work, with strong command of typography, composition, color, hierarchy, and art direction.
  
• Deep fluency in vector-based design, with enough understanding of the underlying principles to work almost interchangeably across Figma and Illustrator—not mere proficiency with one application. Figma is our primary environment.
  
• Significant experience in senior-level creative design, typically 6+ years across brand, marketing, or product-led environments, with a track record of shipping consequential work at volume and to a consistently high standard.
  
• Experience leading and developing designers, including writing clear briefs, giving rigorous but constructive critique, and raising the quality of work produced by Associate and Analyst designers.
  
• Practical experience building and extending design systems: identifying recurring patterns and turning them into reusable grids, scales, components, templates, and documented guidance.
  
• Clear communication and collaboration, with the ability to articulate the reasoning behind creative decisions and work productively with product, marketing, and brand stakeholders.
  
• Strong organization and design hygiene, including well-structured source files, clear naming, and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines without compromising craft.
  
• Strong authorship and creative judgment when working with AI. You’re able to interrogate, refine, reconstruct, and finish generated material until the outcome is unmistakably authored design rather than recognizable output from a tool or model.

• Range beyond static graphic design, particularly motion, video, and other forms of visual expression.
  
• Exposure to product and digital interface design, with an understanding of how brand expression extends coherently across web, mobile, and other interactive experiences.
