Research & Development Officer

Job Summary

• We are seeking a qualified and experienced R&D Officer to support research and development activities for our new Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) Plant.
• The successful candidate will support laboratory process validation, process-related troubleshooting, feasibility and process optimization studies, new product development, R&D documentation, sample management, and other technical activities required to support the successful validation and operation of the plant.

Responsibilities

• Synthesize potential process-related impurities and reported polymorphs of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients.
• Plan and perform laboratory process validation of developed processes.
• Organize laboratory trials for troubleshooting process-related problems in the plant and recommend appropriate solutions.
• Review reprocessing procedures and provide appropriate technical recommendations.
• Prepare R&D documents including documentation for drug licence approval by local regulatory agencies, process feasibility study reports, process optimization study reports, key raw material user trial reports for vendor qualification, Technology Transfer Documents, product scale-up reports, product development reports, Chemistry, Manufacturing & Control documents, and polymorphism study reports.
• Maintain records and ensure proper storage of samples.
• Check R&D experimental data, analyse results, and report findings to the Department Head.
• Ensure implementation of applicable statutory requirements under ISO and WHO-GMP certification.
• Ensure adequate stock of impurities in the laboratory and raise timely requisitions as required.
• Control documents of external origin.
• Retain samples for the specified retention period.
• Provide training on relevant subject matters.
• Plan feasibility studies, process optimization studies, and “what-if” studies for new products.
• Plan and organize laboratory trials for new product development and support finalization of processes for transfer to the Production Department.
• Participate in HAZOP studies for products in coordination with the Safety team.
• These responsibilities remain closely aligned with the original R&D Executive profile provided.

Requirements

• B.Sc. in Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, B.Pharm., or a related scientific discipline.
• M.Sc. will be an added advantage.
• Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical R&D, chemical/process manufacturing, product or process development, or a related regulated manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

• Good knowledge of pharmaceutical research and development processes.
• Knowledge of laboratory process validation and process optimization.
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good understanding of R&D documentation and record-keeping.
• Knowledge of ISO and WHO-GMP requirements.
• Good understanding of laboratory safety requirements.
• Good communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work effectively with Production, Safety, Quality, and other relevant departments.
