About the Role
We are seeking a competent and patient-focused Post-NYSC Medical Officer to join the Consulting Doctors team. The successful candidate will provide quality clinical care, participate in consultations and minor surgical procedures, support emergency care, and work closely with the Medical Director and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe and effective patient management.
The ideal candidate should have post-NYSC clinical experience , strong people skills, sound clinical judgment, and basic practical experience in surgical procedures and general medical practice.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive patient consultations, clinical assessments, and physical examinations.
Take accurate medical histories and document patient information appropriately.
Diagnose and manage common medical conditions within the scope of practice.
Develop appropriate treatment plans and prescribe medications in accordance with clinical guidelines.
Provide follow-up care and monitor patients' progress and response to treatment.
Participate in minor surgical procedures and basic surgical interventions under appropriate supervision where required.
Assist with wound management, suturing, incision and drainage, dressing changes, and other basic procedures.
Support the management of emergency and urgent medical cases.
- Perform or assist with basic procedures such as:
Wound suturing and closure
Incision and drainage of uncomplicated abscesses
Wound debridement
Catheterisation
Nasogastric tube insertion
Basic wound dressing and management
Basic resuscitation and emergency procedures
Request and interpret relevant laboratory and diagnostic investigations.
Make appropriate referrals to specialists when necessary.
Participate in ward rounds and review admitted patients.
Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential medical records.
Ensure appropriate documentation of consultations, diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures, and patient outcomes.
Educate patients and their relatives on diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, preventive healthcare, and lifestyle modifications.
Work collaboratively with nurses, laboratory scientists, pharmacists, consultants, and other healthcare professionals.
Participate in clinical meetings, case reviews, and other hospital activities.
Observe hospital clinical protocols, infection prevention and control standards, and patient-safety procedures.
Ensure appropriate escalation of critical or deteriorating patients to the Medical Director or relevant consultant.
Maintain professional, ethical, and respectful relationships with patients, colleagues, and hospital management.
Participate in continuous professional development and remain updated on current medical practices and clinical guidelines.
Perform other clinical responsibilities assigned by the Medical Director.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from a recognised institution.
Post-NYSC experience in a hospital, clinic, or comparable healthcare environment.
Valid registration and practising licence with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) .
Demonstrable experience in general medical practice and patient management.
Basic practical knowledge and experience in surgical procedures/minor surgery .
Ability to assess, stabilise, and appropriately manage common emergency presentations.
Strong clinical documentation and record-keeping skills.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
Willingness and ability to reside within the hospital premises in Onikolobo, Abeokuta .
Candidates must be available for full-time, on-site engagement.
Required Professional Certification / Registration
MDCN Registration and Valid Practising Licence – Mandatory
Evidence of completion of NYSC .
Relevant additional clinical certifications will be an advantage.

Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate should be a post-NYSC Medical Officer with hands-on clinical experience , preferably with exposure to general outpatient practice, inpatient care, emergency management, and basic surgical procedures.
The candidate should be comfortable with practical procedures such as suturing, wound management, incision and drainage, dressing, catheterisation, and basic emergency interventions , while demonstrating good clinical judgment and knowing when to escalate complex cases to a senior physician or specialist.
A strong emphasis will also be placed on communication, patient relationship management, professionalism, teamwork, and willingness to reside within the hospital premises .
Compensation
₦450,000 monthly, inclusive of applicable incentives.
