Job Summary
- The Carpenter is responsible for carrying out carpentry, woodworking, repair, installation, and maintenance work throughout the hotel.
- The role involves ensuring that all wooden fixtures, furniture, doors, cabinets, fittings, and other related structures are maintained in good, safe, and presentable condition.
- The Carpenter is expected to respond promptly to maintenance requests, carry out preventive maintenance, and ensure that all assigned tasks are completed to the required standard.
Responsibilities
- Carry out repairs and maintenance of wooden fixtures, furniture, doors, frames, cabinets, shelves, and other carpentry-related items within the hotel.
- Construct, install, repair, and maintain wooden structures and fittings as required.
- Attend to work orders and maintenance requests promptly and efficiently.
- Inspect wooden fixtures and structures regularly and identify items requiring repair or replacement.
- Carry out preventive maintenance on furniture, doors, cabinets, and other wooden fittings.
- Repair damaged furniture and fixtures in guest rooms, public areas, offices, restaurants, and other hotel facilities.
- Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and install wood and other related materials accurately.
- Ensure that all completed work meets the required quality, safety, and aesthetic standards of the hotel.
- Work closely with other members of the Maintenance/Engineering team when handling tasks that require multiple technical skills.
- Maintain and properly use carpentry tools, equipment, and materials.
- Report damaged, defective, or missing tools and equipment to the appropriate supervisor.
- Maintain a clean and safe working area after completing assigned tasks.
- Follow all hotel policies, safety procedures, and instructions issued by the Maintenance Supervisor/Chief Engineer.
- Respond to urgent maintenance requests and emergencies when required.
- Maintain proper records of completed maintenance and repair activities where applicable.
- Ensure minimal disruption to guests and hotel operations while carrying out maintenance work.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor, Chief Engineer, or Management.
Health, Safety & Compliance:
- Comply with all hotel health and safety regulations and procedures.
- Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when carrying out assigned tasks.
- Handle tools, machinery, and materials safely and responsibly.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, hazards, accidents, or damage to the appropriate supervisor.
- Ensure that work areas are secured appropriately to prevent accidents involving guests or employees.
Requirements
- Minimum of an SSCE / WAEC or equivalent qualification.
- Technical/vocational training or certification in Carpentry or a related field is an advantage.
- 2–3 years of relevant carpentry experience, preferably within a hotel, commercial building, or similar facility.
- Good knowledge of carpentry tools, materials, and techniques.
- Ability to read and work with basic measurements and dimensions.
- Ability to identify and resolve basic carpentry and furniture-related problems.
- Previous experience in hotel maintenance is an added advantage.
