Maintenance Controller - Snacks

What You’ll Do
Maintenance Operations & Team Leadership:

  • Lead, coach, and supervise shift maintenance engineers to ensure effective maintenance execution and shift handovers.
  • Plan and allocate daily maintenance activities based on production priorities, available resources, and technical requirements.
  • Oversee maintenance activities across production lines, ensuring adequate coverage to support continuous operations.
  • Monitor team performance, identify training and development needs, and promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure clear communication of maintenance priorities, equipment status, and operational challenges across shifts.

Maintenance & Reliability:

  • Lead the technical response to equipment breakdowns and ensure prompt restoration of production operations.
  • Direct root cause analysis (RCA) of recurring equipment failures and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Execute preventive and predictive maintenance programmes in collaboration with the Maintenance System Engineer.
  • Coordinate routine inspection and maintenance of production equipment, including mixers, ovens, conveyors, and packaging lines.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with the Production Manager to coordinate maintenance activities around production schedules, changeovers, and planned stoppages.
  • Partner with the Maintenance System Engineer to ensure accurate updates of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), including work orders, spare parts usage, and equipment history.
  • Provide technical support to Production and Quality teams on equipment-related issues, new product introductions, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and other relevant functions on equipment upgrades, modifications, and maintenance optimisation projects.

Documentation, Compliance & Safety:

  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with UAC Foods’ food safety, quality, health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory and manufacturing standards, including ISO and NAFDAC requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of breakdowns, preventive maintenance activities, work orders, equipment history, and other maintenance interventions.
  • Ensure maintenance activities are properly documented to support audits, performance monitoring, and continuous improvement.
  • Promote safe working practices and ensure compliance with established maintenance and safety procedures.

Spares & Cost Management:

  • Monitor the availability and utilisation of maintenance consumables and critical spare parts.
  • Work with the Maintenance System Engineer and Procurement team to ensure adequate availability of critical spares.
  • Review spare parts stock levels and recommend appropriate inventory adjustments to minimise the risk of production downtime.
  • Monitor maintenance-related costs, consumables, and overtime to ensure adherence to budgetary guidelines.

What We’re Looking For
Qualifications:

  • B.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • NSE Membership, COREN certification, or CMRP certification will be an added advantage.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in industrial maintenance, preferably within an FMCG, food, or beverage manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience leading and supervising maintenance teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong hands-on experience with maintenance and reliability of production and processing equipment.
  • Experience managing maintenance operations across multiple production lines and shifts.

Technical & Leadership Expertise:

  • Strong knowledge of engineering and maintenance practices, including preventive and predictive maintenance.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot equipment failures, conduct root cause analysis, and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Experience with maintenance systems/CMMS and equipment history management.
  • Strong understanding of food safety, quality, health, and safety requirements within a manufacturing environment.
  • Good understanding of maintenance cost management, spare parts planning, and inventory control.
  • Strong information management and analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Sound business acumen with the ability to align maintenance activities with production and business objectives.
  • Demonstrates self-confidence, integrity, accountability, and strong stakeholder management skills.
