Job Summary
- The Farm Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the farm and ensuring that all farming activities are carried out efficiently and in accordance with established standards.
- The role involves supervising farm workers, coordinating crop, poultry, fishery, and livestock operations, maintaining farm records, and ensuring optimal productivity while complying with health, safety, and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise daily farm operations across crop production, poultry, fishery, and livestock units.
- Allocate duties to farm workers and monitor their performance to ensure productivity and efficiency.
- Ensure proper implementation of planting, irrigation, fertilizer application, weeding, pest and disease control, and harvesting activities.
- Supervise poultry operations, including feeding, vaccination, medication, egg collection, brooding, cleaning, and biosecurity measures.
- Monitor fish farming activities, including pond preparation, stocking, feeding, water quality management, and harvesting.
- Oversee the care, feeding, breeding, and health of livestock where applicable.
- Monitor the proper use, maintenance, and storage of farm machinery, equipment, and tools.
- Ensure farm facilities, poultry houses, fish ponds, and storage areas are kept clean and well maintained.
- Monitor feed, fertilizer, chemicals, seeds, veterinary supplies, and other farm inputs, and report stock requirements promptly.
- Maintain accurate daily records of farm activities, production, inventory, mortality, attendance, and equipment usage.
- Report operational challenges, disease outbreaks, equipment faults, or unusual incidents promptly to the Farm Manager.
- Ensure compliance with farm health, safety, environmental, and biosecurity policies.
- Train and guide farm workers on proper farming techniques and safe work practices.
- Assist in implementing production plans and achieving farm productivity targets.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Farm Manager or Management.
Qualifications
- National Diploma (ND), Higher National Diploma (HND), or Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture, Animal Science, Crop Science, Fisheries, Agricultural Technology, or a related field.
- Relevant agricultural certifications will be an added advantage.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years' practical experience in farm operations.
- Hands-on experience in one or more of the following: crop farming, poultry production, fish farming, or livestock management.
- Experience supervising farm workers in a commercial farming environment is preferred.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Good knowledge of crop cultivation, poultry, fishery, and livestock management.
- Understanding of farm machinery, irrigation systems, and farm maintenance.
- Strong leadership and team supervision skills.
- Good record-keeping and reporting skills.
- Ability to identify common crop, poultry, fish, and livestock diseases and report issues promptly.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and in outdoor farm environments.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is an added advantage.
- High level of integrity, discipline, and attention to detail.
