Overview
- Responsible for monitoring, maintaining and improving the performance of minigrid systems powering telecommunications masts and stations, with primary accountability for ensuring assigned sites achieve uninterrupted uptime.
Job Description
- Monitor the performance and operational status of assigned mini-grid and telecoms sites daily.
- Ensure assigned sites maintain a maximum uptime through proactive monitoring and maintenance.
- Monitor solar generation, battery status, inverter performance, load consumption, alarms and other critical system parameters.
- Identify potential faults and abnormalities early to prevent system shutdowns.
- Respond promptly to site alarms, outages and equipment failures.
- Diagnose and resolve electrical, solar, battery, inverter and related system faults.
- Carry out scheduled preventive maintenance and routine site inspections.
- Inspect solar panels, batteries, inverters, cables, connections, protection systems and other equipment.
- Manage and prioritize maintenance activities across multiple sites based on urgency and site performance.
- Maintain accurate records of site uptime, downtime, faults, repairs and maintenance activities.
- Conduct root-cause analysis of recurring faults and recommend corrective actions.
- Coordinate with Operations, Engineering, telecoms representatives and contractors to resolve technical issues.
- Ensure required tools, spare parts and maintenance materials are available for site interventions.
- Provide timely reports on site performance, downtime, faults and corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with electrical, HSE and site safety procedures.
- Support emergency and after-hours response to critical site failures when required.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Site Uptime: Maximum 100% across assigned sites.
- Fault Response: Timely response to critical alarms and outages.
- Fault Resolution: Resolution of faults within approved turnaround times.
- Preventive Maintenance: 100% completion of scheduled maintenance.
- Downtime: Continuous reduction in avoidable site downtime.
- Repeat Faults: Reduction in recurring equipment failures.
- Reporting: Timely and accurate submission of site reports.
- Safety: Full compliance with HSE and electrical safety requirements.
Requirements / Skills
- OND / HND in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or related field.
- 2 – 4 years' experience in solar, mini-grid, electrical, inverter, battery or power systems.
- Practical experience with solar PV, battery storage and inverter systems.
- Experience managing multiple field sites is an advantage.
