Our client is an industrial distributor providing heavy machinery and equipment services to corporate clients across Nigeria.
Job Summary
The Finance Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, ensure strong financial governance and compliance, and provide financial analysis to support strategic business decisions. The role ensures accurate financial reporting, cost control, inventory and asset management, profitability analysis, and compliance with industry-specific regulations. The Finance Controller will report to the General Manager working closely with management, sales, operations, and services teams to optimize revenue, manage high-value assets/equipment, maintain strong cash flow, and drive overall financial performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation of accurate and timely monthly, annual, and statutory financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) in compliance with relevant standards (e.g., IFRS). Conduct variance analysis and provide insights for business decisions.
- Manage the annual budgeting process, perform financial feasibility analysis and develop long-term financial models for capital-intensive operations.
- Oversee costing for machinery / spare parts sales, and maintenance services. Ensure accurate cost allocation, price equipment usage.
- Manage and coordinate all internal and external audits across procurement, inventory, sales, and finance processes, acting as the primary liaison with auditors, banks, and regulatory bodies.
- Manage cash flow, including forecasting needs, planning for foreign currency risks, and overseeing daily treasury functions.
- Implement process automation of financial modules in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, Tally, etc.). Optimize and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Lead and mentor the finance/accounts teams.
Requirements
- A degree in accounting or finance is required. MBA or professional certification (ACCA, CPA, ICAN) highly preferred.
- 10+ years experience in financial management, accounting, or auditing, with several years in a leadership role is expected.
- Experience ideally in heavy machinery/equipment, construction, or manufacturing, automotive or industrial sectors is a strong advantage.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS, taxation, cost accounting, and inventory management.
- Expertise in financial modelling, forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis.
- Proficient in financial analysis tools and software, including ERP systems and MS Office suite (especially Excel and Word).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- High level of integrity and ethical behavior.
- Excellent leadership, communication, team management, and decision-making.
- Must understand heavy equipment dealership operations.
