Instrumentation & Automation Technician

Role Purpose
Responsible for the routine maintenance of all instrumentation and automation equipment. Monitor and report spare availability and consumption patterns to avoid stock-outs of spare parts. Carry out minor modifications to support the production process and recommend the replacement of obsolete spares.
Role Responsibilities
Work with process control systems, including programmable logic controllers, sensors and actuators.
Consult manuals and read and interpret circuit diagrams and schematics for installed instrumentation and automation equipment.
Repair and adjust system components, or remove and replace defective parts.
Install control and measurement instruments on existing or new plant equipment.
Inspect and test the operation of instruments and systems to diagnose faults using pneumatic, electrical and electronic testing devices and precision measuring instruments.
Repair and adjust system components such as sensors, transmitters and programmable logic controllers, or remove and replace defective parts.
Maintain both analogue and digital field instruments, such as level, pressure, position, limit, speed, temperature, flow and weight sensors, actuators and gas analysers.
Calibrate field instruments such as weigh feeders, belt scales, level and pressure transmitters, temperature transmitters and flow meters according to manufacturers’ specifications or business best practices.
Perform scheduled preventive maintenance work, complete pre-start-up tests and generate maintenance reports.
Install control and measurement instruments on existing and new plant equipment and processes under the supervision of the Automation/Instrumentation Engineer.
Use SAP to facilitate the proper scheduling, planning and execution of work, while ensuring the safety of equipment and personnel in the plant.
Consult with Central Control Room Operators for the diagnosis of field instrument faults to minimise downtime.
Support the installation, modification, testing and operation of automation and instrumentation systems, and generate documentation and reports for tasks carried out.
Troubleshoot failures in process control systems involving electrical and mechanical equipment and instrumentation.
Requirements
Critical Knowledge
Good knowledge of cement manufacturing processes.
Good knowledge of product quality parameters and quality control tests.
Good knowledge of computer-aided systems for kiln and mill operation.
Ability to take initiative based on sound problem-solving skills.
Critical Experience
4–5 years’ post-graduation experience.
Educational Qualification and Other Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in any Engineering discipline , with Electrical Engineering, Electronics or Physics as the main subject.
Other Requirements
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Microsoft Project .
Commitment to the highest standards of safe work practices.
Good knowledge of safety laws and regulations .
Good coaching skills.
Very good written and verbal communication skills.
