General Manager

Job Summary

• Our client, a superior luxury Hotel in Aba, Abia State, is seeking an experienced and commercially driven General Manager to provide overall leadership and strategic direction for the hotel.
• The General Manager will have overall responsibility for the hotel's day-to-day operations, financial performance, guest experience, employee performance, service standards, business development, and compliance.
• The successful candidate will be expected to drive operational excellence while positioning the hotel as a leading hospitality destination in Aba.

Responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for all hotel departments and operations.
• Develop and implement business strategies and operational plans to achieve the hotel's objectives.
• Take overall responsibility for the hotel's financial performance, profitability, and revenue growth.
• Prepare, manage, and monitor annual budgets, operating expenses, and departmental financial targets.
• Monitor hotel revenue, occupancy, ADR, RevPAR, departmental performance, and other key performance indicators.
• Develop strategies to improve room occupancy, food and beverage revenue, events, conferences, and other hotel income streams.
• Ensure consistently high standards of guest service, hospitality, and customer satisfaction.
• Establish and maintain operational standards, policies, procedures, and service quality benchmarks.
• Lead and motivate the hotel's management team and ensure effective coordination across all departments.
• Review departmental performance and hold Heads of Department accountable for agreed targets and standards.
• Oversee recruitment, onboarding, training, development, performance management, and retention of hotel employees.
• Promote a strong culture of professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and excellent guest service.
• Monitor compliance with hotel policies, statutory requirements, health and safety standards, and industry best practices.
• Ensure effective risk management, security, emergency preparedness, and business continuity procedures.
• Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of hotel facilities, rooms, restaurants, rooftop bar, conference facilities, gym, and other guest areas.
• Work closely with the F&B, Rooms Division, Engineering, Security, Finance, HR, Sales, and other departments to ensure seamless operations.
• Drive sales and marketing initiatives in collaboration with the relevant teams to increase hotel visibility and revenue.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with corporate clients, travel partners, event organisers, VIP guests, suppliers, community stakeholders, and other business partners.
• Represent the hotel at business meetings, industry events, corporate engagements, and relevant external functions.
• Monitor competitor activity, market trends, pricing, and customer preferences and recommend appropriate business strategies.
• Oversee major events, conferences, VIP functions, and other high-profile hotel activities.
• Ensure proper inventory, procurement, cost control, and asset management across the hotel.
• Review management reports and operational data and use insights to improve efficiency and profitability.
• Handle escalated guest complaints and sensitive operational issues professionally and promptly.
• Conduct regular management meetings and operational reviews.
• Prepare and present periodic performance reports to the hotel's ownership/management.
• Identify opportunities for operational improvement, new revenue streams, and service innovation.
• Ensure the hotel consistently delivers the standards expected of a superior luxury property.

Requirements

• B.Sc. / HND in Hospitality Management, Hotel Management, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 8–10 years' progressive experience in hotel operations, with substantial experience in senior management.
• Previous experience as a General Manager, Hotel Manager, Operations Manager, or equivalent senior leadership position in a reputable hotel is highly desirable.
• Strong understanding of hotel operations, including Rooms Division, Food & Beverage, Events, Engineering, Security, Finance, and Guest Relations.
• Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, control costs, increase revenue, and improve profitability.
• Strong commercial and business development acumen.
• Excellent leadership, people-management, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
• Strong knowledge of hospitality service standards and guest experience management.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to lead a large, multidisciplinary team and manage multiple priorities effectively.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and hotel management/PMS systems.
• High level of integrity, professionalism, accountability, and emotional intelligence.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, public holidays, and during major hotel events when required.
• Membership of a recognised hospitality or professional management body will be an added advantage.
