Role Description

  • This is a full-time, on-site Intensivist role based in Lagos.
  • The Intensivist will provide round-the-clock clinical care for critically ill patients in the intensive care unit (ICU), including assessment, stabilization, and ongoing management of complex medical and post-surgical cases.
  • Daily responsibilities include leading multidisciplinary ward rounds, reviewing investigations, adjusting ventilatory and hemodynamic support, and implementing evidence-based protocols for sepsis, respiratory failure, shock, and other critical conditions.
  • The role involves supervising and mentoring junior doctors, collaborating closely with critical care nurses and allied health professionals, and coordinating care with cardiology, pulmonology, anesthesiology, surgery, and other specialties.
  • The Intensivist will also contribute to clinical governance activities, participate in morbidity and mortality reviews, support training and education initiatives, and adhere to hospital policies, quality standards, and infection control protocols.

Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in Medicine, with completed residency or fellowship training in Internal Medicine, Anesthesiology, or a related specialty.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Critical Care Medicine, including management of ventilated patients, hemodynamic monitoring, and advanced life support.
  • Working knowledge of Pulmonology relevant to ICU care, including respiratory failure, ARDS, and complex airway and ventilatory management.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with Critical Care Nursing teams, supporting high standards of bedside care and patient safety.
  • Current medical license (or eligibility for licensure) and recognized specialist certification in intensive care or a closely aligned field.
  • Proficiency in interpreting laboratory data, imaging, and bedside diagnostics to guide timely, evidence-based interventions.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and leadership skills, with the ability to function effectively in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development, teaching, and participation in quality improvement and clinical audit activities.
  • Experience in a cardiac or high-dependency ICU setting is highly desirable; prior experience in a multi-specialty or tertiary care
