Job Summary
- The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable and efficient operation of all electrical systems, machinery and power infrastructure within the rice processing plant.
- The role will oversee preventive and corrective maintenance, electrical troubleshooting, equipment installation, power distribution, automation and control systems, while working closely with Production, Mechanical Engineering and Plant Operations teams to minimize downtime and maintain continuous production.
- The role is particularly suited to candidates with experience in Rice Milling, FMCG, Food Processing, Manufacturing, Agro-processing or other heavy Industrial environments.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Maintenance:
- Plan and execute preventive, predictive and corrective electrical maintenance activities.
- Troubleshoot electrical faults affecting milling, parboiling, drying, sorting, packaging and other production equipment.
- Maintain motors, generators, transformers, switchgear, MCCs, control panels and distribution boards.
- Ensure electrical equipment operates within safe and acceptable parameters.
- Respond promptly to electrical breakdowns to minimize production downtime.
Plant Power & Distribution:
- Monitor the plant's electrical power distribution system.
- Manage and maintain transformers, generators, panels, cables, switchgear and other electrical infrastructure.
- Monitor power consumption and identify opportunities for energy efficiency.
- Ensure reliable power supply to critical production areas.
- Support load balancing and power management across the facility.
Industrial Automation & Controls:
- Troubleshoot and support PLC, sensors, VFDs, control panels and automation systems.
- Work with production and maintenance teams to resolve control-system-related failures.
- Assist with installation, commissioning and modification of electrical and automated equipment.
- Interpret electrical drawings, wiring diagrams and control schematics.
Production Equipment Support:
Provide electrical engineering support to the:
- Rice milling section
- Parboiling section
- Boiler section
- Sortex section
- Packaging section
- Water treatment plant
- Silos
- Turbine/power generation section
- Work closely with Mechanical Engineers and Operators to ensure maximum equipment availability.
Preventive Maintenance:
- Develop and maintain preventive maintenance schedules for electrical equipment.
- Conduct routine inspections and identify potential electrical failures before breakdown occurs.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, breakdowns and equipment performance.
- Track key maintenance indicators including MTBF and MTTR.
Installation & Commissioning:
- Support the installation and commissioning of new machinery and electrical systems.
- Review electrical requirements for new plant equipment.
- Coordinate with equipment suppliers, contractors and technical service providers.
- Ensure installations comply with approved specifications and safety requirements.
Spare Parts & Technical Procurement:
- Identify critical electrical spare parts and maintain appropriate inventory levels.
- Prepare technical specifications for electrical components and equipment.
- Work with procurement teams to source quality electrical materials and spare parts.
- Evaluate suppliers and contractors where required.
Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with electrical safety procedures and plant HSE requirements.
- Implement Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures during maintenance activities.
- Conduct electrical risk assessments and support safety inspections.
- Ensure technicians use appropriate PPE and follow safe working practices.
- Investigate electrical incidents and recommend corrective actions.
Team Supervision:
- Supervise electrical technicians, electricians and contractors.
- Allocate daily maintenance activities and monitor work completion.
- Provide technical guidance and on-the-job coaching to junior technical staff.
- Coordinate maintenance activities with production schedules to minimize disruption.
Reporting:
- Prepare daily, weekly and monthly electrical maintenance reports.
- Report equipment breakdowns, downtime and corrective actions.
- Maintain records of energy consumption and electrical equipment performance.
- Provide recommendations to management for improving plant reliability and efficiency.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree/HND in Electrical Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering or a related discipline.
- COREN registration or eligibility is an advantage.
- Relevant technical or industrial certifications will be an added advantage.
Experience:
- 5–8 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering/maintenance.
- Experience in Rice Milling, FMCG, Food Processing, Manufacturing, agro-processing, or another Industrial Plant is highly preferred.
- Practical experience with industrial electrical systems, motors, generators, transformers, MCCs, VFDs, and control panels.
- Experience with PLC/automation systems is an advantage.
- Candidates with experience in large-scale rice mills or grain-processing plants will be particularly suitable.
