Safety Officer

Job Summary

• We are seeking a proactive and experienced Safety Officer to oversee workplace health and safety activities at our operational site in Sabon Wuse. T
• he successful candidate will be responsible for promoting a safe working environment, ensuring compliance with HSE policies, identifying workplace hazards, and preventing accidents and occupational injuries.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement and monitor compliance with company HSE policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
• Conduct regular site inspections to identify hazards, unsafe acts, and unsafe working conditions.
• Ensure employees, contractors, and visitors comply with PPE requirements and safety procedures.
• Conduct toolbox talks, safety briefings, and HSE induction for employees and contractors.
• Monitor safety compliance during equipment operations, maintenance, installation, and material handling.
• Identify workplace hazards and conduct risk assessments, recommending appropriate control measures.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
• Monitor the availability and proper use of firefighting equipment and other emergency response materials.
• Ensure compliance with permit-to-work systems, lockout/tagout procedures, and safe operating practices.
• Maintain safety records, inspection reports, incident reports, and other HSE documentation.
• Promote safety awareness and encourage employees to report unsafe conditions and practices.
• Coordinate emergency preparedness activities and participate in emergency response drills.
• Report safety concerns and recommend improvements to management.
• Perform any other safety-related duties assigned by the HSE Manager or Management.

Qualifications and Experience

• B.Sc., HND, or OND in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Relevant HSE certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent professional qualifications.
• Minimum of 3–5 years' relevant experience in HSE, preferably in mining, quarrying, construction, or industrial operations.
• Good knowledge of workplace safety regulations, hazard identification, and risk assessment.
• Experience in incident investigation, safety inspections, and toolbox talks.
• Strong communication, observation, reporting, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and enforce safety standards effectively.
• Candidates must either be resident in Sabon Wuse or surrounding areas, or be willing and available to relocate to the location.
