Cost Accountant

Overview

• A Cost Accountant (also called a cost analyst) evaluates operational costs, identifies inefficiencies, and provides financial insights to help management make informed decisions.
• A cost accountant analyzes business expenses, develops cost standards, prepares cost reports, and supports budgeting, inventory control, and profitability analysis for an organization.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Cost Analysis & Reporting:

• Collect and analyze cost data for raw materials, labor, inventory, and production processes.
• Prepare cost reports, budget reports, and financial forecasts.
• Conduct cost-volume-profit (CVP) analysis and breakeven analysis.
• Report on margins, variances, and profitability by product or division.
• Inventory & Cost Control
• Coordinate physical inventory counts and cycle counts.
• Review and update standard costs in bills of materials.
• Validate cost of goods sold during month-end close.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities and recommend process improvements.

Financial Support & Compliance:

• Assist in preparing financial statements and month-end closings.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
• Advise executives on cost structures and financial feasibility.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance; CMA or cost-specific credentials beneficial with 2 - 5 years experience.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to work with large datasets.
• Knowledge of standard costing, LIFO/FIFO, job or process costing (depending on industry).
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Salary
N450,000 - N500,000 monthly.
