Overview

• Jhpiego, an Affiliate of Johns Hopkins University is a global leader in improving healthcare services for women and their families. In collaboration with some it’s partners, Save the Children International (SCI), Pediatric Association of Nigeria (PAN), Nigeria Society of Neonatal Medicine (NISONM), Society of Gynecology and Obstetrics of Nigeria (SOGON) and National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), will be implementing a Department of State funded award
• The program aims to contribute to the reduction of maternal, infant and child mortality due to malaria by delivering essential health packages and scaling up integrated service delivery models that combine malaria, MNCH, TB, and HIV screening across the antenatal, birth, postnatal, infant, and child health continuum.
• The initiative will operationalize integrated PHC services for women and children in Nigeria, aligned with the Sector-Wide Approach (“one plan, one budget, one report”) under the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (NSRII), leveraging BHCPF 2.0 and strengthening referral pathways to higher levels of care.

Summary Scope of Work

• The Senior Malaria Technical Advisor (SMTA) will provide overall technical vision and guidance in the area of integrated service delivery models that combine malaria, MNCH, TB, and HIV screening across the antenatal, birth, postnatal, infant, and child health continuum

Responsibilities

• As a member of the project’s Core Team, the SMTA will provide technical leadership, ensure alignment with global and national policies, guidelines, and best practices. S/he will work with, subnational institutions, networks, relevant NGOs and professional associations, collaborating organizations and Federal and state governments in Nigeria to ensure implementation of project activities.
• The SMTA will also advise on national and global “best practice” examples and their potential replicability, as well as opportunities for knowledge exchange among country-based institutions and/or individuals.
• S/he will Support the development and dissemination of technical standards, tools, and reports S/he will also collaborate with other project staff to implement all projects related activities to integrated service delivery models that combine malaria, MNCH, TB, and HIV screening across the antenatal, birth, postnatal, infant, and child health continuum
• The SMTA will support the State Malaria Technical Advisor and State Malaria Technical officers to implement all project activities in a timely manner, including the Annual World Malaria Day, biannual MNCH weeks and will work with the NPHCDA and SPHCDA to provide mentorship to medical officers, nurse/midwives, CHEWS and CHWBF in project supported health facilities.

Required Qualifications

• Medical Degree (Doctor or Nurse) or Master’s Degree in Public Health.
• Minimum of 8 years’ experience implementing malaria programs (community malaria or malaria in pregnancy).
• At least 5 years’ experience managing large donor-funded projects (≥ $10M annually), including design and implementation of overseas health projects; experience in Malaria program in Africa, Nigeria preferred.
• Certified “Master Trainer” with proven experience training health workers on malaria case management.
• Demonstrate experience in capacity building at both individual and organizational levels.
• Strong background in malaria service delivery at provincial, clinical, and community levels.
• In-depth understanding of the Nigerian healthcare system, particularly the public health system; prior experience living and working in Nigeria preferred.
• Familiarity with UNITAID management and reporting procedures.
• Fluency in English (written and spoken).

• Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines and intense pressure to perform
• Demonstrate proficiency in at least 2-3 core areas, service delivery strengthening, training and workforce development, performance/quality improvement, or monitoring and evaluation.
• Proven ability to liaise effectively with senior government officials, donor representatives, NGOs, and other stakeholders, while fostering productive partnerships nationally and internationally.
• Strong analytical capacity to identify and apply best practices, coupled with excellent oral, written, and presentation skills.
• Ability to perform under pressure in complex environments, with appreciation for socio‑cultural differences and experience in low‑resource, multi‑cultural settings.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, readiness to travel nationally, and capacity to engage with established networks of health professionals and partners.
• Demonstrated skills and  experience in knowledge management, reports, and manuscript publications in high impact peer-reviewed journals.
