Role Purpose

  • The Driver is responsible for the safe, efficient, and professional operation of company vehicles in support of logistics, transportation, and client service delivery.
  • The role ensures timely movement of personnel, goods, and materials while maintaining high standards of safety, vehicle care, and customer service.

Key Responsibilities
Vehicle Operation & Safety:

  • Safe driving in accordance with road traffic laws, company policies, and client-specific protocols.
  • Conduct daily vehicle inspections before operation (fuel, tyres, brakes, lights, fluids, documentation).
  • Ensure zero tolerance for reckless driving, speeding, phone use while driving, or any unsafe behaviour.
  • Maintain situational awareness, especially in high-risk or insecure environments.

Logistics & Transport Duties:

  • Transport staff, goods, and materials to assigned destinations on schedule.
  • Support field operations, airport pickups, deliveries, and inter-state movements.
  • Ensure proper loading, securing, and handling of cargo.
  • Maintain accurate trip logs, mileage records, and fuel usage reports.

Vehicle Care & Maintenance:

  • Keep the vehicle clean, presentable, and roadworthy at all times.
  • Report mechanical issues immediately to the Fleet Supervisor.
  • Ensure timely servicing, repairs, and preventive maintenance.
  • Safeguard all vehicle tools, equipment, and documents.

Compliance & Documentation:

  • Carry valid driver’s licence, vehicle papers, and company identification at all times.
  • Comply with client-specific SOPs, security protocols, and operational guidelines.
  • Maintain confidentiality of client information and company operations.
  • Complete all required forms, logs, and incident reports accurately.

Customer Service & Professional Conduct:

  • Demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, and respect to clients, passengers, and colleagues.
  • Maintain neat personal appearance and proper uniform.
  • Communicate clearly, calmly, and respectfully in all situations.
  • Uphold the company’s reputation through exemplary behaviour.

Security & Risk Management:

  • Follow designated routes and security advisories.
  • Avoid unauthorised passengers, stops, or diversions.
  • Report security incidents, suspicious activity, or emergencies immediately.
  • Support safe evacuation procedures when required.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Valid Nigerian driver’s licence (Class appropriate for assigned vehicle).
  • 5 – 10 years professional driving experience (NGO, corporate, or government preferred).
  • Proven experience driving sedans, SUVs, pickups, and buses.
  • Training in defensive driving, road safety, and basic vehicle maintenance.
  • Familiarity with routes across northern Nigeria (or assigned region).
  • Ability to read, write, and maintain basic records.

Reporting & Accountability:
The Driver reports directly to the Operations Manager or Fleet Supervisor, and is accountable for:

  • Vehicle condition
  • Safety of passengers and cargo
  • Compliance with operational procedures
  • Accurate documentation and reporting

Working Conditions:

  • Frequent travel within assigned states
  • Occasional long-distance or inter-state trips
  • Early morning, late evening, weekend, or emergency assignments
  • Exposure to varying weather and road conditions
  • Possible deployment to high-risk or remote areas (with security guidance)
