Director of Programs

Position Summary

The Director of Programs will provide strategic leadership and technical oversight for the organization's programs and projects. The successful candidate will ensure high-quality project design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, learning, and reporting while strengthening partnerships with donors, government institutions, civil society organizations, and communities.

The Director of Programs will work closely with the Executive Director to drive organizational growth, ensure program quality, mobilize resources, and expand the organization's impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for the planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of all organizational programs.
  • Lead the development of high-quality project proposals, concept notes, and grant applications.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with donor and organizational requirements.
  • Supervise and mentor program staff, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, teamwork, and continuous learning.
  • Strengthen partnerships with government agencies, development partners, donors, organizations of persons with disabilities (OPDs), community leaders, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure effective integration of gender equality, disability inclusion, safeguarding, accountability, and protection principles across all programs.
  • Oversee program quality assurance, risk management, and organizational learning.
  • Support fundraising initiatives and identify new funding opportunities.
  • Represent the organization at national and international meetings, conferences, and stakeholder engagements.
  • Prepare high-quality technical reports, presentations, and strategic updates for management, donors, and partners.
  • Contribute to organizational strategy development and institutional capacity strengthening.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Master's degree in Development Studies, Public Health, Social Sciences, Project Management, International Development, or a related field. A bachelor's degree with substantial relevant experience may also be considered.
  • Minimum of 8–10 years of progressively responsible experience managing donor-funded development or humanitarian programs.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a senior management or leadership role within an NGO or development organization.
  • Proven experience in program design, grant management, donor compliance, and proposal development.
  • Demonstrated experience working with institutional donors and development partners.
  • Strong leadership, strategic planning, financial oversight, and people management skills.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, report writing, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) systems.
  • Experience promoting disability inclusion, gender equality, safeguarding, and community participation is an added advantage.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools.
